Sorry if this has been covered somewhere, I tried researching the best I could.
I have a 2001 Explorer Sport, 2dr 2wd, with the 4.0 and a 4.10 rear end. I've been told that the tranny code is a 5R55E. Well about a month ago I put the transmission into drive and it wouldn't do anything, the motor would just rev up. The local Ford dealer quoted me $2600 to rebuild it, but not wanting to spend that much money I started looking for one on my own. So I found a 5R55E that a semi-local auto repair place has, he said that it came off a 2004 Ranger with a 4.0 that only had 9 miles before it was salvaged. So my question would be is this tranny compatible with my Explorer and is there anything at all that would need to be modified or converted to make it work? Thanks guys.
