Hello! I have a 90 Eddie Bauer. Will the transmission from a 92 XLT work? The Eddie only spins the rear wheels. They both have the 4.0L motor. The previous owner spent about $1,200 - $1,500 on the transmission.

Thanks,

The 92 A4LD is a little more updated than the 90 A4LD. Since both are 4.0L models, they should work, but the tailshaft might be a little different since the 2WD extension housing is different than a 4X4 extension housing. The transfer case goes into the rear, so the driveshaft is a little shorter. Since you said that only the rear wheels work, it makes me think that the problem is related to the transfer case or the control module, and not the transmission.

Sounds good, but is it OK to drive it the way it is? I checked the transmission fluid and it looks good. I can't see my tachometer to see the RPMs. At what speed does it shift into 4th? Maybe all I need is the idle air control since I have intermittent fast idle?

Thanks BrooklynBay:thumbsup:

What is the exact problem you are having? Is it a lack of overdrive, no tachometer or a high idle (maybe all of the above)?

Sorry for not being clear of the exact problems I am having. However it is all of the above, But I can only do one thing at a time.
So fixing the intermittent high idle would need to be first on my list.

Thanks,

White Lion,
