My buddy just bought a '91 Eddie, filled the tank all the way to find a leak. The top of the tank is all rusted out. He needs this to be replaced today. I have the gas tank out of my '98 5.0L. Will this fit even though it has a larger capacity?
Thanks in adavnce.

I doubt it. Call a junk yard and ask them.

I don't think it will, I believe the 98 uses a non-return line setup compared to a conventional one that runs a return line.

Isn't the tank plastic?. My '93 4dr has a plastic tank.. The only metal is the zinc coated steel lock ring and mounting flange (embedded at the top of the tank at time of manufacture) for the fuel pump sending unit.. If it were me I would carefullly remove all rust, get a new fuel pump & lock ring and (if the mounting flange is bad) seal it into place with a fuel resistant adhesive or epoxy.. Beats having to get a whole new tank... Just my $0.02

i called up ford and they said no it doesnt due to the return and other items.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't seen it for myself, this is all over the phone. My '93 has a plastic tank as well. All he said was it was leaking from the top of the tank. I did'nt even think about that till it was too late. It's at dealer now.

That makes more sense as it is common for the zinc coated steel lines of the fuel pump sending unit to rust out over time and require replacement... Although you'd only need to replace the sending unit, I would replace the whole assembly as it is only an additional $60+ or so... Not worth the pain to drop the tank and redo it 6months down the road... Around hear the dealer wants $500 to replace the fuel pump... :thumbdwn: When my truck died I brought it to the dealer for diagnosis, they charge me $45 diagnostic fee and told me the fuel pump was dead and it was a $500 job (90 day warranty).. I said thanks and had AAA tow it back to my home where I replaced it myself About $200 for life time warrantied pump and misc tools (fuel line disconnects, hand pump to empty tank etc). Info on this can be found in the fuel section in the Explorer maint sect in my sig line as well as searching this site for other good info...
