I have the stock MAF that was on my mustang and it is a 70mm and is noticeably larger than the one on my explorer. I believe that they both use the same size injectors at 19#. I was wondering if anyone has done this before and if it was worthwhile? I have the adapter for it so I could mount one of my conical K&N on it and keep from buying a KKM kit. The 4 bolt flange looks to be the same. Guess I'll try it when I get home this weekend and see if it works. But any input before hand would be great.

You would have to switch the sensors out of the housings as they have different calibration.

Yea I was going to use the electronics out of the explorer since the ones from the mustang are in the C&L maf that is on the mustang. I was just wondering if it would run right with the larger MAF and maybe pick up a little power. If it does not that's not a major deal since it was just something to play with.

I had the same idea awhile back

The only potential downside I could think of would be running rich. The engine would think there is more air coming in than before, so it might send more fuel. That could hurt your mileage, and not give you the gains I think you're looking for.
One guy on here simply switched teh electronics from a bigger MAF and (according to the post) it worked like a charm.
I took out my stock MAF and measured it. Sonofagun: 70mm. So the key on some Explorers is simply the electronics.
Keep us posted on results.

I'm going to try it this weekend when I get home since that is where everything is. I am also going to make my own KKM look-alike kit with some other mustang stuff that I have lying around at the house. I'll post some pictures and if it worked or not Sunday night when I get back to school.
