Will an 05 mustang 4.0/5R55 bolt in a 02 X

My family and I love our 02 X. We bought it new and now that the wife is staying home we will need to keep it (its paid for) for a long time. I drive a 71 F100 and 68 cougar to work. I have swaped a 460 in the 71 F100 and I have rebuilt lots of stuff on the 68 cougar. I'm not afraid of engine work.

I know the 05 mustang comes with the 4.0 / 5R55. I'm sure the motor in the X will last at least to 150K miles, but that is only 50K miles away. Will the 4.0 / 5R55 from the mustang bolt in? Has anyone done this? I know the intake will be a little different, so I would keep the X intake, but I'm more worried about the trans length or electronics. My 2002 is a plain XLT with no other options. No AWD or towing package.

I believe that the 2002+ model 5R's are all alike. The 2002+ is a new adaptive PCM controlled trans. Do wait for an expert confirmation though. They will interchange, the only question is the control systems(valve body), and also the rear housing pattern.

Check out the bolt pattern of this 2003 AWD transfer case below. This bolts directly to the 5R55E or W trans. Good luck,
