Will it hurt to grease the ball joints with the needle tipped grease gun if they arent making any noise? Just for a preventitive maintnence type thing? Is it possible to "Over grease" them?

97splorer,

I think it is a good idea to occasionally grease the ball joints, to drive out old grease and possibly moisture. But how do you grease without a zerk fitting? What is a needle tip? Do you carefully puncture the boot?

Many thanks, Dan

yes, you carfully push a needle tip into the boot. I did this on one that was creaking pretty bad and it stopped it immediatly. I wanted to grease the rest of them to make sure that they still have grease. I am afraid that I will over fill them and blow the boot out.

Where do you get a needle tip?

Be carefull with too much grease. I think the boot could be damaged. Hopefully, the excess would just squirt out. I would go with only 1 pump of the grease gun?

Thanks for the info, Dan
