Ok, I have a 97 explorer, I am fixing to put on 3" spindles in the front and do a 1" torsion bar twist in the front. I am going to out a 4" superlift spring pack in the back. Are the explorer and rangers the same size? Will the skid plate for the rangers from Pro Comp fit of my explorer with what i am going to do? Does any boy have info on a skid plate for my 97 explorer?

ALso, does anyone have a rollbar kit in there explorer? Iwant to put one in my explorer. Anybody have any ideas or
opinions?

Yo PDOG!!! Actually the rear springs are the same in design, but way off in dimensions. The Ranger springs are quite a bit longer (12.5" actually) than the Explorer springs. Skyjacker has replacement springs for 'em that have close to OE rate and handle great. As for the skid plate interchanging, no, it's quite different on the Ranger. On the rollbar kit, where do you live? Maybe I can set you up with a reputable fabricator to build you something...Mark

Mark@orw

Ford sells the factory skid plates as a kit. One covers the gas tank and a seperate piece goes across the frame under the transfer case. I just put them on a 2000 xls 4x4. Very easy to install, all the hardware came in the kit. Light-weight steel but better than nothing under the low-hanging gas tank. The dealer never heard of it, but found it in their computer when I gave him the part number. Ford part no. 9C082

Hey again PDOG. You are looking for a front plate yes? Something to go from the bumper to the crossmember? There's a few companies making 'prerunner bars' with a skid plate. Let me know...Mark

How much?

Hey jbg,

Thanks for that info, how much does the kit cost?

Also mark@orw,

Who sells the pre-runner bumber skip plate kits? HOw much do they cost?

thanks PDOG

Thanks buddy, I really appreciate your advice. DId you have to do any modifications to the skid plate. Can I get the skid plate from a Ford dealership. do you know the part number? That would be handy for me to get a hold of one. Is difficult to put on. ON your web site, THere is no pics of the skip plate. On my computer your page did not load very well. Can your email me some pics or post them of this post. I would really be greatful. My email address is

Hey PDOG, Mark here again. Company named Fierce-Off-Road makes some bars and skid plates for a bunch of different vehicles. They're supposedly working on the Explorers I've been told. Check the link below to get an idea of what they look like and get their # off the site and give 'em a call, pretty sweet...Mark
