I have a 02 w/ the cassette/CD. I wanted to upgrade the system keeping the factory HU. I was wondering if I would notice any better sound with replacing the factory speakers. I spoke to a guy at a local audio shop here and he said the only way to get any better was to add an amp, sub, etc. Thanks

your local guy wants to take you for a ride. You dont need an amp sub.. etc.
You can change the speakers but it prob wont sound that much better, it may even sound better with the factory stuff. Your best bet is to get yourself a new HU and replace the stock speakers. That is the cheapest way to increase sound quality. Get yourself a good HU and try to buy the same brand speakers as the HU and you'll be golden.
I have the panasonic deh-600u (something like that) with 3 way panasonic interiors with no amp i im extremely happy.
total cost was about 500 for everything including installation.
Im assuming you are not looking to thump down the block with a sub right?
what i described will give you good sound quality so long as you get a good HU.
Good Luck

Never ever trust local car audio guys, they're just as bad as used car salesman. I would also recommend getting a new head unit if you're gonna change the speakers out. As for speakers i would recommend the 2 way pioneer 5x7s at Best Buy. They are like 69 bucks a pair and require no mounting mods at all because they were custom cut for Explorers and Navajos.
