I want to build my 94 Xploder in to a real dependable work truck, and not a typical SUV.

I am thing of transferring the diff, transfer case and suspension from a 1956 IHC S140 4x4, and I am looking for help from the experts....

I know that mounting the suspension will be fairly strait forward, and that I may have to adjust the location of the spring perches.

I will also have to create all new fiberglass wheel wells to accommodate the 20" wheels.

I am just wondering if the frame on the Explorer will be able to support the additions

Also would it be feasible to extend the drive shaft from the PTO on the transfer case to the front bumper, and mount the winch on the front bumper?

Thanks
Doug

I'm guessing the chain-drive from the t/c was for the wrecker winch? You really want a mean truck when you're done! Don't know if the frame will handle it--- what all do you plan to add for the frame to "handle"

Yes the Chain drive goes to the winch, and I just want to extend the pto shaft to the front of "Marvin", and mount the winch there.

I am just thinking with the weight of the suspension and tires, will it rip the frame apart.....

i will be using the truck mostly for hauling trees out of the bush, and pulling a trailer loads of wood home.

But it still has to be dependable enought to haul my wifes craft to craft fairs in the winter :)

Thanks Doug

If you plan on doing something this over the top im not sure i would consider it a reliable vehicle for the street. Im not sure what kind of inspections, or if you have inspections, but would that even pass if you did something like that? It would be a beast off road though. In my opinion, if your looking for it to be somewhat street worthy still i would consider another lift option. If you were me i would get that tow truck running, that thing is sick machine!

That tow truck is off the hook. Nothing will swap over.

Why not try doing a body swap and just stick the explorer's body on the tow trucks frame? I think that would be the easiest and best solution.

I agree with kert ^^^^, swapping the body would be the only feasible way.
But I also think it would be a shame to destroy that classic truck, it's a beaut! Why not just restore it a little?

Unfortunatly the frame is toast.

I bought it because it was owned by a childhood friend's father, any my friend was killed in high school 30 years ago.
