Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with electric windows on 91 Sport's.

Mine have decided to both go out. They started deteriorating slowly. When you press the button to roll up or down, it sounds like the motor isn't quite connecting to the gears (kind of ratcheting noise). First the passenger went out (about 6 months ago) and now the drivers side is having the same problems. It's time to fix them.

I took it to a window specialist but the guy wanted $120 just to diagnose it and wanted to charge me around $300 per window to fix so I didn't go for either option.

I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and what you did to fix it.

Thanks, I appreciate all your help.

Joe.

hey Joe welcome to the site.

Sounds to me like you need a couple of new window motors.
Unfortunately they are a pita to swap out.
How adventurous are you feeling ?
Do you have basic mechanical skills ?

Visit a few body shops or two for labor rates and shop a few junk yards for used motors.

Here is the link to fix your windows

I have done this to all my power windows it works and costs approx $3.00 total

Best of luck!Dead Link Removed

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. Looks like I'll be spending my evenings battling the window fix :(

Thanks sunbum. Unfortunately windows update doesn't work on a hacked version of windows XP ;) (kidding).

Let everyone know how it goes!

Keep in mind if you do replace a window motor that you will have to check the "voltage regulator" I believe that is what it is called. This is why my driver side power window motor went out in my 94 XLT, it was getting too much voltage. If this is the cause and you replace just the motor then it will just cause it to go out again shortly. I had a shop do mine because it was very tough access to the window motor and I was not in the mood to remove rivets and re-drill etc.....The shop charged me $220 with all the parts and labor.
