I'd be interested to know how this is done, and if it's something I could do on my own. I'd also like to know where I can buy the window tint sheets. Please let me know. Thanks.

explaining how to tint is not to easy, just like doing it is not that easy. I'm self taught and it has taking a wile to get the hang of it.tinting is something that I would rather show someone how to do instead of explain it.
you can get tint at almost any autoparts store, and it comes with directions on the box

I self taught myself also. Results aren't perfect but for $30 I couldn't go wrong. I picked mine up at Wally World. Definetly get the application kit and the removal solution. Makes the job 100X easier.

I like the Gila products. get the tint squeegee, but don't bother with the film aid, or the remover

went I apply it I use dish soap and watter in a spray bottle.
To remove the tint I use acetone, its cheaper than the ''special remover''

Ohhh yaaa.. if you get tint, make sure to get the 24'' roles not the 20'' unless you like the big inch gap at the top of the window :D

I just did my front windows. I picked up a 15 foot roll at Lowe's and used the whole darn thing and still didn't do it correctly. I also recoment the Gila install kit...it made things much easier.

All that it really takes is cutting the tint the correct size on the outside of the winow, transfering the tint to the inside of the window and wiping out the bubbles. My only tip is keep the window very very wet while working with moving the tint around. Try doing it in the shade or something like that.

To do door windows, I take the window out. That way to get the hole window and it makes life much easier. although taking out the window isn't the cat pj's ether.
the 2nd gen. explorers are riveted in to the track...... hahaha...... fun

I'm a bit discouraged. I'm considering taking the truck in somewhere to have it done. ANy objections?

Nope, I think its really really hard to do a good job on your own.

Tinting yourself is not as easy as it looks. It takes alot of pratice. The pro's do tons of cars a week so they make it seem easy.

ok - decision made - going to a shop to tint

When you get them done, if you're cool with it I'd like to know where. I'm minutes from LI. I'm looking for a quality job at a reasonable rate. I'd like to get my '02 fronts done to match the back.

It makes it alot easier if you buy precut sheets...they sell them on ebay.

I wouldn't get discouraged till you try it !!

try it whats the worse that could happen?? you have to peel it off and you learn from your mistakes

Definately, I want to match my backs too. Will it be street legal?

Mikephotos - I think I'm going to go to Solar Solutions 516-599-0433. They have a ton of experience and seem to be well ranked.

Where are they and did you get a quote yet? Would you mind if I come out to take a look at the finished job, maybe a meet somewhere? Maybe we can get some other LI X-owners together for a meet.

Not sure if the match would be legal (what %??) but it's not really that dark so I don't believe it'll be a problem. I've seen tons of cars in my area with much darker tint.
