Windows one up one down

So i recently purchased this explorer and the guy who owned it before me said he bought the truck with the windows already like this. The driver is stuck up and the passenger is stuck down. I found a melted (looks like a relay) in the driver door that has 4 wires going to it that is extremely melted. Whoever pulled the switch last actually ripped these 4 wires out of the master switch. Those of you who know about this truck know that this is a major pain in the A%& bc they are soldered in to the switch. Is this melted relay the problem with my truck? I do not want to purchase it before i know for sure. ford has it for $90. I have a picture of it but can't find out how to post it on the forum.

Ford told me that relay/box operates both doors, without it neither window will work. Its $90, but after riding all day with the window up and other covered with a trash bag bc of this rain one second gone the next I have decided that I would pay as much as needed for windows and AC

Not sure about the relay thing, but sometimes my back windows will get stuck. I know whole different ball park there. Sometimes I can tap the button and the driver rear will become unstuck, and I'll either help it go up or have to completely pull it and the passenger back window closed.

Looking into the motor's, a cheap set of rubber looking bushings can be purchased for under $8 at auto zone in the self help section. Sometimes pulling the door panel and tapping the motor area with a hammer will free up the motor and allow it to work, but for how long is anyone's guess.

Just throwing this information out for you, perhaps you already knew this or perhaps you didn't.

On to AC issues, is your working fine? Mine kind of works but bleeds of the coolant after sometime, under an hour. I'm not really able to shell out whatever amount of money it would cost to go over the entire A/C system to find the leak and repair it as it will most likely start leaking elsewhere and that would just compound the problems.

I think your best bet is to go to "forums" in the blue bar at the top of the page and click it, then scroll down to click on Stock 91-94 Explorers. The top half of the page is "Stickys" and you will find 91-94 electrical diagrams and further down the page is Power Window Bushing Replacement with Pics. I fixed all 4 of my windows with those stickys. The box you describe appears to be the auto up/down box located inside the drivers door just aft of the pull handle. On other threads I found the module to run around $27 which is better than $90. of course $5 at the junkyard is best. Good luck with it.

The master switch on the LF door is the main part, the same for any 91-94 Sport. That is usually the problem.

If you can show/explain what damage is there, I can point you to what to fix.

The master switch for a 95-01 4dr used to be $55 new, from Ford. Do not pay $90 for the one mentioned. On eBay it's likely you can find many of the Sport version for $20 or less, used or maybe NOS.

Found the relay in the junkyard for next to nothing, driver motor works but sounds like it has no teeth or the regulator just is t working. Pass window also runs on same relay. The motor and switch were both bad. I tried the banging trick and it's been working like it never had a prob. The big thing is splicing every wire with a new unit for the master switch bc the kid who had this before me ripped the wires out when The relay melted. I pulled a new switch from a mazda Navajo.

You can swap the whole door harness to avoid all of that splicing. Get it from that Navajo if you can. The hardest part to that is disconnecting the harness in the door jamb, do that first.

I wanted to take the whole harness but there's a group of people who rob that u pull it of everything that can fit in a pocket and spend all day taking stuff and then they put it all on eBay. So the only reason I got that box is bc whoever stripped this Navajo of all it's components including that box didn't think to look inside the door. I found a few more online now that I've done a bit more research on the situation. Just glad to have working windows. It's to hot in jersey to have no AC AND NON FUNCTIONING WIDOWS. Thanks for all you guys help though I appreciate your time. I'm going to look through the stickies now to find regulator replacement on the driver. The motor sounds but I have to help the window up and down so it's gears could be messed up it could be off track. Or it could be both.

That will probably be the three plastic "pucks", about $7 at the parts store. Those are always bad, so always have them ready when you take the motor drive gear plate off. The group of those parts are about $20.

The rollers, I didn't know those could be replaced. The window goes down I just have to put pressure on the window and it goes down very easy. If it can go up and down does the mean that regulator is still good? Thanks for the plastic puck idea that's the first thing I check

The regulator almost never ever goes bad. The plastic drive gears in the motor assembly are made specifically to take all of the abuse. They are made to fail, so that all of the other parts last so long. The motors almost never fail, and they would be the next weak link.

Those plastic gear parts are good for maybe 10-15 years. It would be wise to replace them all every 10 years.
