Hi all.. This is my first post. I just bought a 94 exp xlt 4x4 and the window switch is out. I can live with that for a while but, The front windows are stuck down and i want to find a way to bypass the broken switch using a jumper wire or something to just get thelm up and leave thelm that way until i get it worked out... Any help please. I'll e-mail you a beer.

"Out" like broken and not working or "out" like removed from the vehicle?

Out like not working

Out like not working...

Don't mean to sound like a smart-ass, but it makes a difference.

If you push one of the window buttons, can you hear the motor inside the respective door whirring away? If so, then one possibility is that the nylon bushings inside the motor have deteriorated over time. The other possibility is that the wire which is used to move the window up and down has broken or become detached at some point.

If you don't hear the motors in any doors whir when you push a button, then you most likely have a bad master switch (the one in the driver door armrest) or an electrical problem like no power to the switch.

I hear no motor noise on the front windows. I think there is no power to the switch which is the master switch. However the rear windows were working about 2 hours ago until i took the switch apart and cleaned all the contacts. Now nothing works lol. I was sure i had it all fixed but i guess not. Thanks 4 your help.

In the meantime you can try taking the door panels off and moving the windows up by hand and then putting a piece of wood in there to hold the windows up or use some small Vice Grips and clamp them onto the tracks to keep the windows from coming back down.

If all else fails - duct tape the suckers up.

Do you know of any way to bypass the master switch to get the windows at least up. providing that the motors still work.

Yeah, you can apply power and ground directly to the wiring harness that the switch plugs into.

Here..give this a shot (assuming you have a 4 door - if you have a 2-door lemme know):

Left Front: Apply 12v to Yellow / Red tracer. Ground Red / Yellow tracer.
Right Front: Apply 12v to White / Yellow tracer. Ground Tan / Light Blue tracer.
Left Rear: Apply 12v to Yellow / Light Blue tracer. Ground Gray / Orange tracer.
Right Rear: Apply 12v to Yellow / Black tracer. Ground Red / Black tracer.

I'll give it a go. thanks. I'll let ya know if it works....

I tried it didn't budge but, I may be doing it wrong. I applied power from the battery with a jumper wire to the pin you said.then i used a shorter jumper wire to the other pin and grounded it to the frame.. Should i have grounded off the bat it self?

Any ground point should work.
The window motors are bi-directional which means that if you apply power to one side and ground to the other then the window goes down. Reverse the power and ground wires and the window should go up.

The other place you can try it is at the switch in the door itself. The switch panel should pop off with a flat blade screwdriver, then you'll need a phillips screwdriver to remove the harness from the switch.

If that doesn't work for whatever reason, disconnect the harness near the motor and try it there.

Where is the direct plug to the motor? I know there is a two blade plug you can unplug on the lower part of the door... is that to the motor..

thanks for your help

Yeah, that 2-wire plug inside the lower part of the door is for the motor.

The Left Front, (driver door) for example, should have a Yellow / Red tracer and Red wire in that 2-wire harness. The other 3 doors should have the same scheme of Yellow / Red tracer & Red / Yellow tracer. The reason the LF doesn't have the same scheme is because the Red / Yellow tracer wire goes into the "One Touch Down" module, but comes out as a straight Red wire.

Apply power to one wire and ground to the other. If it doesn't go in the intended direction, just flip your jumper wires around.

Just unplug the harness fron the motor itself, and hook a jumper to either wire within the motor end of the connector. Does the same thing, and eliminates a possible problem if there is a wire break between the switch and the motor.

I just put a battery on the floor, jumper wires on either pole, and touched the wires to the exposed sockets on the motor harness.

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a million...
Beer's in the mail....

hey i have the window problem but mine whirs and none of the rear passenger door go up is there a way i can take them out and fix them. i fixed the front passenger door cause of the damn plastic gear but i was wondering if they were fixable ??????
