winshield wiper linkage help

hey, does anyone know how to replace the linkage that goes from the winshield wiper motor to the windshield wiper? i got the one arm off that comes off the motor but i cant figure out how to get the other part off that runs up thru the cowl that the wiper arm/blade hooks onto, thanks for the help

1am bump lol, really gotta fix this tomorow, anyone know how to take the old one out? i tired hitting it and turning it, its odd that they tell u how to change wiper arms in the hynes maual, but nothing on the linkage from the motor to the wipers.....

Assuming it's a 95 or 96 per your signature, here's the info:

Pivot Shafts and Linkage

Removal and Installation

NOTE: The left and right pivot and windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip (17531) assemblies are serviced separately.



Perform Steps 1 through 9 of Removal and Installation, Wiper Motor as described in this section.

If servicing left windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip, remove left windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft and windshield wiper blade assembly.

Remove left windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip access cover.

Remove left pivot nut, lower windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip and slide it out through left access opening.

For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order. Tighten nut to 10-13 Nm (7-10 lb-ft). Make sure the clip is fully seated in the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip. Do not try to install clip with windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip on motor crank pin.


Wiper Motor

CAUTION: The internal permanent magnets used in the windshield wiper motor are a ceramic (glass-like) material. Care must be exercised in handling the windshield wiper motor to avoid damaging the magnets. The windshield wiper motor must not be struck or tapped with a hammer or other object.

Windshield wiper motor (17504) are not serviceable. If worn or damaged, the windshield wiper motor must be replaced as an assembly.

Removal

Cycle windshield wiper blades until in straight-up position and turn ignition switch OFF.

Disconnect battery and wiper motor electrical connector.

Remove the right windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft and windshield wiper blade.

Remove the right pivot nut and allow the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip to drop into the cowl top outer panel.

Remove the linkage access cover, located on the right side of the dash panel near the windshield wiper motor.

Reach through the access cover opening and unsnap the wiper motor clip.

Push the clip away from the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip until it clears the nib on the crack pin. Then, push the clip off the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip.

Remove the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip from windshield wiper motor crank pin.

Remove nut and ground strap stud.

Remove three attaching screws fromwindshield wiper motor. Remove the windshield wiper motor.

Installation

Position the windshield wiper motor and install the three attaching screws. Tighten to 6.8-9.2 Nm (10-14 lb-ft).

Install ground stud. Tighten to 7-9 Nm (62-80 lb-in).

Install nut and ground strap.

Connect wiper motor electrical connector.

Install clip completely onto right windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip. Make sure the clip is fully seated. Do not put the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip on the motor crank pin and then try to install the clip.

Install the left windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip onto the wiper motor crank pin.

Install the right windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip onto the wiper motor crank pin. Pull the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip onto the crank pin until it snaps into place. The clip is properly installed if the nib is protruding through the center of the clip.

Install the right windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft and nut. Tighten the nut to 10-13 Nm (7-10 lb-ft).

Install the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft and windshield wiper blade assemblies on the pivot shafts to dimension X. Dimension X is the distance between the centerline of the blade saddle and the top edge of the cowl top outer panel grille. The value of dimension X for each vehicle is given in the Dimension X Chart in the Adjustment portion of this section.

Test the system.

thanks jijoe for the reply, i took the wiper arm off and took the cowl off, i removed the one arm that runs from the motor, how to i get the other part off tho, dont understandwhat it means, there are threads on it so i assumed u unscrew it, but it has two pins holding it in.... ill get a pic to explain, thanks

well heres pictures of what i mean, where u hook on the wiperarm below that is threads, but as u can see those 2 little "pins" will not let u unscrew it...im stuck, and my mom is getting pissed i havent fixed it yet, snowing for last week and for the next week too, shes unhappy that i broke it lol, but here ya go,

ya thats what i get for buying a crappy camera, well anyway i feel like a total retard lol, i got it fixed, turns out u just gotta unscrew the big plastic nut, well i was taking it back after i fixed it, and after i got mine i was on my way home and then my freakin wiper did the same thing lol, right in the middle of the winshield the wipers stopped working, turns out the pass side wiper arm broke, looks like it mighta sheared the head off the wiper motor shaft, hope not but i think ill do a white up on how to replace wiper motor linkage next week when i change mine, thanks

I need some help. My rear windshield wiper motor changes the angle of the shaft that goes from the wiper motor to the arm itself as it moves across the back windshield. Because of this, the wiper only wipes the last 10 or so inches of its cycle on the driver's side. I've tried bending the wiper arm to try to change te angle, but that didn't help. Got any idea as to what happened and how to fix it?

You should have started a new thread instead of hijacking this one... but to answer the question, flip the arm up to a 90-degree angle off the window. At the hinge on either side of the spring, you'll see a pair of fingers that limit the travel of the wiper arm. Grind, dremel, file, sand, or gnaw 3/16 to 1/8 inch of length off those fingers and the wiper will work like new again. I did mine back in '02 and it hasn't missed a swipe since!

Fix

Used it tonight on my '02 ford Exp Sport, was about to tap drill the metal bit and use bolt nuts and washers then came across this @ Advanced

& found the same on Amazon Dorman 49447 HELP! Wiper Linkage Bushing
