ok so i blew a fuse the other day and the radio went out i decided i could live w/out music til the next day when it wasn't going to be busy....later that day it started raining and the wipers didn't work...EITHER OF THEM so i looked through my owners manual and checked all the fuses that could have been the problem, they were all good, and so i pulled and checked all the fuses on the primary interior and engine bay fuse boxes....all good....HELP!!!!!!

bump...this is turning into a real problem, any advice is welcomed

did you replace the radio fuse??? did you check for voltage with a meter at the fuse points?

did you check your wiper relays?... again with a meter

bump, checked at fuse points, i have power...but still no power to radio or wipers, checked for shorts, none help!!!!!!!!! i really don't want to take this to a shop

With a meter you can find about any problems. Be sure to actually check the fuses not just look at them. Some don't "look" bad, but can be. Be sure to check your power circuit to the radio for a short to ground. That would be the most likely cause of a blown fuse. You werent' real clear about the outcome of that radio fuse. If there is a good one in there but still inop, check the power at the back of the radio, if there's power, check your ground. You may find that it grounds with your wipers at the same location. Grounds can also "look" good but not check out with a meter.

is it a stock radio??? Stock radio is fed directly from the fuse to the radio with power in on Y/BK.

You might want to check fuse 20 in particular (the fuse box in the dash). That should be a 7.5 Amp fuse - it feeds the radio and GEM among other things - it could cause wiper problems, not allow the radio to turn on, and may cause problems with the passive anti-theft system among other things. Even if it looks good try replacing it, or test it if you have an ohmmeter.

Note: it's fuse #20 in the '97 Explorer, and I think it's the same for '96. If not, look in the manual for a 7.5 Amp fuse assiciated with the radio, and that will be the one to examine.

I am having the same exact problem. What did yours turn out to be????????

There might be a relay called "accessory delay relay" that allows these things to work for a brief period after the ignition is turned off. If this relay is bad, it might cause your problems. Find that relay and swap it with another to see if it is the problem.
