What is that wire that is going to the driver's seat belt connector. Is it a senor for when you unbuckle it or something? If it is it doesn't seem to be working cause the seat belt warning light doesnt go off when I unbuckle my seat belt with the truck running.

Yes, it's the seat belt sensor.

does it actually do anything?

yeah, it should make the light on the dash stay on for about 15 seconds until you clip the belt into place.

Yea it does when u start it but the light doesnt come on after you have buckled up and unbuckle again

Then it ain't work'in...:D

i wouldn't bother with fixing it, since most people don't need a light to tell us our seatbelt is not on

It doesnt come on again in first generation Explorers...only on Startup....

My drivers side seatbelt clip is broken. I am going to go to get a new one at the junk yard and was wondering if I replace it and don't attach the wire to the new one will it make a difference and what is the easiest way to remove it???

dont know if this has anything to do with it... but when the airbags went off in our 97 E150 van they had to replace that clip side of the seatbelt.... they told us that when the airbags deploy that there are some kind of locking pins or something that blow into place.... i didnt really question it because the insurance was picking up the tab but they did indeed replace the whole buckle side of the seatbelt on both sides of the car even though there was no one in the passenger side......

A few things:

1.Since it is a piece of safety equipment, the junkyard cant even legally sell youa new one...get a new one. Chances are the ones at a junkyard have been damaged in the crash that put the wreck in the junkyard. You dont want it to fail when YOU need it.... :nono:

2. The bolt holding it in is a TORX T-50 bolt You will need that special socket, and a huge breaker bar....it is really torqued in, and the threads have locktite on them... the easiest way to get at it is to remove the center console......To do that, I have a thread in the Useful threads section you can reference.

I'm not saying you're wrong here Crankcase, I just wanted to add that I didn't have to do this to get mine off so try it without it first. I was able to get mine off with only a regular sized 1/2" ratchet and did not have to take out the console. It will save you some trouble if you're able to do it this way. Also, you can get the plastic cover clip off without ripping it out :) I realized this only after I had ripped the first one out the wrong way. :banghead:

Hi Brandon,

My driver's side seat blet won't stay in. On examination, when it is out the spring that brings it back is lost. If I push the button down it foesn;t move because it is already down whereas the other seat's seat belt button is riding high and has a spring system that brings it back when released.

Any thoughts on what I might need to do, or do I need to definitely bring it into the Ford dealer?

Also, until I figure this out it takes maybe 20-30 attempts inserting it to get it to lock, and it can easily just pop out when driving. Can something be inserted somehow to drive the car till I get it fixed?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

If you leave it unplugged the light won't come on. Mines been unplugged for awhile now.

this is sooooooo easy and i have an extra but i dont know if they are diff for canadian cars lol and its from a 94 its grey in color i just got a new seat that had one attached and i have the old one so if u want it its still pretty new cause i had the same prob with my old one and replaced it and now i replaced it again cause the seat came with one if u want it just let me know id have to figure out shipping and stuff tho

Hi Wiskah,

My seat is green leather so the gray won't match. That will undoubtedly have a poor affect on my mileage if I use the wronmg color (g). But thanks for the offer.

Mike

no prob but just 1 question what does the color have to do with your mileage?
