2kLimitedv8- dont bother with the throttle body. the stock 5.0 X throttle body is a 65mm.

Those extremes have motor work done to then stock and theyre alot lighter but as long as you where keeping up with them its all good. :D drop a 351c in youre truck then youll smoke them.

I would like to know what year Ranger your friend had. My '86 4-cyliner, 2WD shortbed with a 3.73 axle, Ford Motorsports header, K&N drop-in, Flow master muffler equipped Ranger could only eek out a 19.23. My '94 4.0L, 2WD SuperCab Ranger could only run a best of 16.557 with a cat-back, SuperChip, K&N drop-in and Pro-Flow MAF sensor. I do not see anyway that a stock 4-cylinder Ranger would run quicker than a stock 4.0L, slightly modified Ranger. I test drove a '93 4-cylinder prior to ordering my '94 and it felt very sluggish compared to my '86.

The Extreme's do not have any motor work done to them by Chevy. The Extreme is only an appearance/handling package. You can get an Extreme with both a 4-cylinder and the same 180 HP V6 you can get in any other S-10.

my truck ran a 19 1/4mile haha but i have a little secret

my friend had a stock 95 ranger long bed. 2.3l This truck has stripped it didnt even have a tape deck or carpeting. He also has little 14" rims and 205\75\r15 tires. I believe the rear end ratio was 3.55

On another note he had a manual transmission i dunno if your trucks had the same.

Both my '86 and my '94 had a 5-speed manual. My '86 was about as stripped as they came. My '94 was pretty well loaded, including a 3.55 limited slip. Having owned an '86 4-cylinder, test driven a '93 4-cylinder prior to getting my '94 4.0L and riding in a friends '95 4-cylinder Mazda none of them came close to matching the acceleration my '94 4.0L had. It is one of those cases where I would have to see it to believe it. My '86 Ranger weighed about 3200 lbs and had 96 HP (33.3 lb/HP). My '94 Supercab weighed about 3700 lbs and had 160 HP (23.1 lb/HP). It would take a lot more than a 500 lb. weight difference to make up for the lack of 64 HP.

I read an article somewhere where they used a dyno to check out "power pulleys". I don't recall the exact numbers, but they completely removed all the belts and checked the HP with NOTHING hooked up for a short test and it showed minute HP gain, like 4 HP. I wouldn't want my water pump and power steering going any slower than now, just to get a couple HP. However, before I read the article I though they would be a good idea (from my air-cooled VW days), anyone have any real data on these pulleys?

ill try to dig up the article, but it was written for BMW's by the guy that owns 'DINAN', basically a BMW performance shop.. the just of the article was that he refused to use underdrive pullies because they mess with your engines harmonics, and unless you wanna buy a new engine a couple years down the road, a couple hp wont be worth it, NOS would IMHO be safer on your engine than underdrive pullies

Get the Nitrous!!!!

I haven't been on the message board in a while.

Anyway, Get the nitrous. My 96 V8 AWD Limited ran a 14.1 last summer (in florida) on a 125 shot of nitrous!! The only other mods were a K&N airfilter and a custom exhaust!

go for it,

Andrew

Oh yeah, it launches like a FREAK with nitrous and AWD. My sixty foot times at the track were a 1.91 seconds.

whoa... now thats speed... how much did that run you?

id like to put spray in mine but that will totally void my entire warranty.

your X is a 98, how much warranty could you have left?

i can't remember, but I think my trap speeds were around 93 MPH. The mph is so-so; the real shine of my X was in 0-60 sprints. It would run 0- 60 in the 5 second range. Troll can verify how quick my X was. I haven't the spray in there for a while now. My cargo area is filled with serious bass now. The system is still installed, but I have no room for a bottle. Maybe I'll put it back in after this years dB Drag, USACi, and MECA World Finals.

I've got 3 years left on my warranty. That should cover my tranny when it goes. :D

can you relocate the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor to fool the computer that you are receive colder more dense air, and thus richen up the fuel mixture? May give you better times at the track.

check out www.speedtweaks.com for the IAT adjuster. Others I know (at least on a Grand Cherokee) just extended the sensor straight into their K&N FIPK or air box, where it was cooler, rather than the intake manifold. I think they reported significantly lower times, like .1~.2 seconds lower.

(fyi, and not flaming- my stock WJ Grand Cherokee runs around 15.4 bone stock in the 1/4 mile :p )

So check out the IAT relocation trick, may help!

Good luck!

im going to the track wednesday night. Hopefully i should be running in the 13's. Its awesome hooking with AWD

LET US KNOW HOW YOU DO!!!

if you have a 5.0 exploer there is so much you can do to it.

if i were you id screw all the bolt on crap and start in on the engine.
id get trickflow twisted wedge heads ported and polished with SS valves and 1.6 rockers with a tfs stage one cam.

that right there will put you over 300hp for 1600$

and as far as aftermarket throttle bodies go, i would only get a FRPP TB. simply becuase they come with a new throttle position sensor

if my old explorer was a 5.0 i would have never sold it.
all the stuff im doing to my mustang i would have done to the explorer.
