2006 explorer limited
Hello everyone, I have a 2006 explorer with a SOHC 4.0 motor. I changed the wires and plugs now the motor run rough. Won't excelerate ove 2700 rpm's. Im sure I put the wires on correctly but now I'm not sure. Any help would be appriciated. If anyone has a diagram for the wires from coil to cylinder that would be great. Thank you in advance.

Firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6, Did you replace one plug and one wire at a time?

Guess i could be a little more helpful with the firing order and plug wire location from coil pack and motor. big rectangle with number is engine, little rectangle with numbers is coil pack. if you did do it correctly then check everything you may have unplugged as well as your plug gaps. Gaps are as follows 1.32-1.42 mm (0.052-0.056 in)

NOT uncommon for #5 and #6 wires to be switched. Also check all vacuum lines and electrical connectors.

Thank you all for your help I'll let you know what happens. I thought the plugs were pre
gapped so I did not gap them.

good luck, they usually are gapped or at least close enough. what brand plugs did you use?

some times they get dropped and the gap get screwed up the plugs

I bought motorcraft plugs. I looked at the ends of them before I put them in they all looked the same.

They should be tapped already but on the lower side of the gap.

Thank you everybody for your help. I had 5 and 6 mixed up and plug wire #1 would not go on the plug all the way. I switched 5 & 6 and put another wire on #1. Run perfect now, thank you all again.

your welcome.
