I have an '06 4.0L XLS w/45K, and today I tried to shift into low range and it wouldn't shift. I normally hear the relay clicking away and it shifts ok, and the 4X4 LOW light illuminates in the dash. I used low range this past winter, so I know it worked ok then. Today when I tried to shift (vehicle stopped, foot on brake, in N,) I pressed the Mode Switch and "nothing," No relay click, no 4X4 LOW illumination in the dash. I also noticed the little light on the rt. side of the 4X4 LOW switch doesn't illuminate/blink when pressed. It shifts ok from 4X4 AUTO into 4-HIGH when I press the mode switch. I have the Service Manual DVD and the diagnostic process is quite lengthly...over 130 possible steps, so any suggestions are very much appreciated much. Thanks. I checked all the fuses about a month ago, so I don't think that's the problem. Maybe I'll check a couple of them again.

Hello out there....tap....tap....tap....is this microphone on? 4x4 HIGH,yes.....4x4 LOW,no. I'm getting frustrated with my X. How can it go into 4 HIGH, and not 4 LOW? I know someone must have some experience with this problem. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what the problem could be but there is no "shift" from auto to high. It only energizes the clutch so the transfer case output to the front axle is locked. In auto the front axle is only powered if the rear wheels slip. I would start with testing for voltage at the actuator motor on the transfer case to see if the computer is trying to energize it to shift.

Well......tonight it works, go figure. I've used it before with no problem. When I said it shifts from AUTO to HIGH, I mean that when I used the MSS (3-button mode selector switch) it would go into HIGH from AUTO, but not into LOW, from HIGH or AUTO. I have the set-up where it's always in AUTO unless I switch to HIGH or LOW using the 3-button MSS. Thanks for the feedback and will keep it in mind if I need it in the future.
