Hello Everyone,
I have a '99 XLT with auto,4w hi & 4w lo.
I'm having a problem in that when I shift into 4w lo and the try to return to auto it won't shift back unless I disconnect the battery.
Can anyone tell me why?
Thanks,gunr

Very tiny tiny % that this might work:
- starting from 4LO, ensure that the vehicle is on a level surface ( you may want to put something a few inches in front and behind the tires but not touching the tires - so as to stop the vehicle from rolling more than a few inches)
- put the transmission in [N]eutral
- rotate the 4x4 selector to "Auto"
- step outside your vehicle and rock the vehicle a few inches forward and backward by pushing/pulling on a bumper.

He's right. sometimes the transfer case will get in a bind (for lack of a better term). Mine has done this . Don't freak out. Sometimes I will go from drive to reverse a couple of times and it will come out.
