- 1996 Ford Wxplorer XLT
So I bought my first car and it's a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT. The guy I bought it from said it had something from Ford that when you start it sometimes you need to use the key fob to unlock the car again while the key is in the off position. Now I had no problem with that and then afew months later I dropped my keys and the key fob stopped working. So now when I want to go somewhere I have to unhook the battery and leave it forr a few minutes then reconnect and it will start right up. Now when I shut it off, the interior lights stay on and after the timer to shut them off, there is a click by the radio and that's when it won't start back up. Now there is no anti theft, and it doesn't have the PATS system. But a few lights pop on when I have the key in the start position then bring to run they shut off. The lights that pop on are the Battery, Check Engine, Airbag, ABS, E-Brake when I let go back into the Run position the lights go off and only show Battery and Check engine light. When I go to start it up after it sits a few minutes un hooked from the battery those lights go off, and will start up just fine, no dash lights after it starts up. Even check with scanner and no current or stored codes show up. I have came here for a while but finally decided to post because I am so lost and unsure if it can be fixed without going to
Ford because they said 140 to just see if there is a problem and more to fix it. I wanted to get an alarm system then this happened and I am unsure if I get a viper alarm system if that will remove whatever problem is going on.
