91 ex, auto, 4x4. Checked the starter, alternator and battery. All checked out good. Turn over the igntion, and all that happens is a click. Also put in a new solenoid and still nothing. The lights and everything electrical works. Next option is to replce the bat cables. Already checked the fuses and they are fine. Someone suggested that there is a starter relay switch on the firewall. Is this right? Where exactly can I find it? Any pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob :afro:

You should have another starter solenoid on either the passenger or drivers side on the firewall. Are you getting any fuel to your truck? Turn your ignition to On and see if you can hear the fuel pump turning on. If not, you may have a bad fuel pump or bad relay.

I hear the fuel pump, so I don't that's the problem. I need to find this other relay.

There are two solenoids. One is located next to the battery on the right inner fenderwell the other is on the starter.

try jumping it from the starter

I took the starter to auto zone and it checked out fine. So I guess that would rule out the second solenoid, wouldn't it? I'm going to get new cables and a battery at napa tomorrow.

It could also be your battery cables. They could be corroded internally.

the other solenoid is not attached to the starter it is far away from it, also, have you tried jumping the starter? it doesn't sound like you have a bad battery or bad wires (althought it won't hurt to replace those) it probebly a bad conection somewhere.

Did the new battery cables fix your problem?

Mine is doing the same thing yours was doing

Please let me know

Ryan
