- 1996 Lincoln Town car
I have a lot of stuff to work on and a limited budget. So, my hobby is when I'm not making money, I'm working on my own stuff.
My parents bought a brand new Lincoln town car in 1996. They wanted a higher up from the ground vehicle and sold it to me about 5 years ago. It only had 35 K miles on it. My first issue was air suspension. I went on line and found a few techniques to test compressor, found it bad, and other advice to look at airbags for cracks, which they were. I put in rear airbags and shocks, and a new compressor. I'm still wondering if I did the left and right controls correctly. I went from the perspective of sitting in drivers seat. The vehicle rides high now, like it should, but doesn't seem to lower itself when I park. I think it use to do that.
For more hobby entertainment I decided that string holding down the trunk was an issue. Don't worry it was only for two days that it was tied up. The motor goes to a plastic base for the gears and it breaks. I think the replacement from a couple years ago is about to go again. Oh well!
I did a drivers window regulator, but the motor was good, I took off the outer trim around the window, which was a mistake. I bent it up pretty good, and should have only pulled the interior rubber on the bottom inside. Is back in and I can see my dings in it. Oh well!
In the passenger side I have some plastic roller bearings I changed out a year or two ago. I have the pack I ordered, and I remember doing it, but don't remember the pain of doing that as much. My memory tends to let go of pain, it must have really been a pain getting into the door then. Probably because I needed the car. I have trucks to ride in, but when your going to a wedding or something, rolling in with the box truck isn't fashionable, or is it?
I made the mistake of buying a cd player at Walmart for the vehicle. Oh, there's more to do? Okay, the Schoche kit sk106 will do the trick. Oh, it doesn't fit all the plugs. What do you mean my old radio isn't a radio at all but just a controller and I need another kit to get to the back receiver, amp. Its nice to know I have the "premium" system, but a little late now that I have bypassed it. So I now have no sub woofer, and no steering wheel control. I really should have just replaced the controller with one that adapted and still used the JBL system. So soon I will get the kit that will get me a steering wheel radio control. Or maybe that will just stay on that long list that keeps nagging at me.
So my next fun and games will be my memory seats. The drivers side keeps going forward until it crushes you. Its a good anti-theft system. Keeps them there till the cops show up, well if they do show up. That is what brought me to the Ford Explorer fourm. It seems we share a common interest in seat memory systems.
Don't worry, I have plenty of hobbies left when this one ends.
