:rolleyes:I took my '02 XLT (60K miles) to the dealer to get new upper ball joints (under my x-tended Ford warranty) and asked the service writer:censored: if they could find out what was causing my blower motor to slow down then speed up (and on & on, when I set the selection to MAX). I thought the alt wasn't putting out as it should and wasn't keeping steady voltage to the blower motor. When I went to pick up the X the service writer told me that the fresh air vent door had fallen on top of the blower motor and that was causing it to speed up and slow down. The fix? $1100. to pull the entire dash and put in a new vent door. Seems a little extreme to me. I asked how they diagnosed it and they said they removed the glove box and could see thru the screen what had happened. I asked why they couldn't remove the screen, replace the vent door and replace the screen and they said it could not be done that way. Anyone know of a more direct way to remedy the problem without pulling the whole dash apart? There's got to be a better way. The blower motor seems not to notice the problem and still blows cold (though the speed is not constant).

Would a Dealer Lie to Me

Brooklynbay, the service writer said it was the 'fresh air vent door.' I asked if that was different from the blend door and he said it was above the blower motor and was not the blend door. I've seen an exploded drawing of the blend door and actuator, here on the forum, but I've got no frame of reference regarding the fresh air vent door. Anybody know where to find drawing or how-to to fix this problem? I don't have (or have access to) a service manual.

yes they would lie to you if they are shady, and my X loses heat as I go up a hill, doesn't bother me tho.

Here's an oxymoron " Truthful Dealership " LOL
