$1200 CAN (about $770 - $780 US) is a lot of money. I guess you got that price at Canadian Tire (FYI the crappiest shop ever). Check some private mechanics or garages. I believe you should find a better deal.
By the way, if $1200 was for both axles, then it was just slightly higher (sp??) than what Alex said - $400 - $700 US ($620 - $1085 CAN) for both axles.
