i was thinking of replacing my sealed 10 with a ported 12 i was told that ported would be the way to go since i am a big heavy metal, rock and roll listener (tighter bass response) would my 250 watt amp be good enough to push a ported twelve rated at around 150-250 the amp is rated max 250 so i am really looking at 120 150 rms bridged.... right. any comments

if ur amp says 250watts max it wont be pushing 150rms..unless the max is rated at 4ohm and u run 2ohm

also i am not sure if a ported box would be ideal for metal and such..from what i have expirenced a sealed box was better for a better veriety of bass and sustained notes..like say from a bass guitar..but a ported box would hit harder

i was told by a sound shop that a ported box does not need the watts unless you need it to hit harder they also said it is ideal for metal because of quicker bass responce and not as much drone that is associated with sealed boxes

other way around man

The shop was right about ported box not needing as much power to get loud. Sealed boxes are a lot tighter and I would go with sealed if i was you.

For tight fast bass you want sealed and a 10" will provide tighter bass then a 12".
