I was talking to my friend today with a GST and he was telling me how the nipple that sticks out of the PCV valve, he stuck a little filter on there and the hose that was connecting to it you just plug it up and it adds horsepower and keeps the engine cooler. He said it works on all cars as far as he knows but I just wanted to ask you guys to make sure before I did it. Anyone know about this?

now don't quote me, as i'm not fluent in engine mechanics. but the pcv valve is for emission control. so filtering that would yeild no results in keeping the engine the engine cooler or adding horse power.

sounds like your friend is a bit of a ricer... ("vinyl adds horsepower YAY!")

but as always i may be wrong...maybe someone eles will jump in..

well he has a turbo car and it did help it out by keeping hot oils from getting into the intake or some ****. I dont remember, some guy at racing zone told him bout it and thats the reason they sold those filters was for that reason. Yeah its for emissions controls and thats why now his car smell bad but i guess u sacrafise that for horse power? i was jw if it works for our cars too

it could but the results wouldn't be much if any.

Tim Allen Syndrome

Here is what happens. A filter from the PCV to the intake will reduce air flow. A portion of that is made up of blowby gasses which won't burn. In essence, you can get more real air with oxygen in. This will increase top end HP a tiny bit. Down side is that it fouls the oil quicker and can create sludge. The filter will soon be contaminated with oil and not pass air anymore.

Putting the filter from the air horn to the filler tube is actually a good idea if large enough. Filter will not be as prone to clogging and it will reduce the amount of silicates the oil picks up. Standard air filters aren't that good at removing small dirt.

Many people who race close off the intake of fresh air and run the crankcase at a vacuum to reduce windage losses. People who race don't care about engine life. Your friend is in a fantasy world getting imaginary results. Most of these efforts only work for momentary periods when when the computer goes into open loop. It will not cool the engine.

it may add a few ponies, but a few, isnt going to see you much difference when wieghed to the damage it could cost....

always remember, if you are going to play, you must be willing to pay.....

alright thank you guys! Good thing i didnt try it then
