Been hearing a lot of noise from brakes and brake light keeps flashing at me so thought it was a good time to change the rotors and pads on 05 Sport trac. I'm running it to strange issues the pads got with rotor bundle did not match what I pulled off. Ran down to advance to see if it was a mistake by the website or one I made but was brought a pair of pads that matched the pair that didn't fit. We tried different brands but keep getting it wrong so we switched years and found that 03 pads matched what I had. First I was wondering if anyone has ran into this before but also after getting the different pad now i can't get the calipers to compress enough to get them on. I've use channel locks C-clamps and get it close but now quite enough. Any advice?

I'd suggest you take the pads you think look like the correct ones to a different auto parts store and have them look up your truck on their parts system. I've found that sometimes what a store has in their data base is wrong. If the second parts store comes up with the same pads then something might be weird with your truck. I've seen parts overlap by one year but never two.

I once had a guy with a similar problem to yours (not being able to get the correct pads for his Toyota), Turned out that a PO had replaced the brake calipers with a set from Wilwood, which required a totally different pad. He ended up having to contact Wilwood.

Dumb question, but... When you say you can't get the pistons to go back far enough, are you opening the bleeder valve to let fluid out or at least removing excess fluid from the master cylinder? If not maybe you're pushing fluid against the MC's cap causing a hydraulic-lock situation.

Thanks for the reply I did try opening the bleed valve and took the cap off of the master cylinder it still won't budge I took the calipers completely off and tried but wouldn't budge I ended up replacing them. But the strangest part about the brakes was that the new calipers fit the brakes pads that were on it and the new ones I bought for an 03 but not the ones that came in for the 05 or the 05s they sold at advance Auto. Just weird. Hopefully I explained it some what understandable.
