I'm in the process of doing my 1st Explorer, but I have lifted leaf spring J**ps in the past. From what I've seem so far, and past experience, I now purchase new rather than used.

Advantages include:

If you buy a complete kit, you get everything you need (usually!), rather than having to eyeball and guess what is missing / broken and what you need, and many trips to the parts store / backordering.

Recourse with the shop or manufacturer on items that don't fit / break.

Plus if you buy a system, all the parts work together, as opposed to having to piecemeal it. eg: 4" lift springs with 6" brackets, etc.

My advice, save up $ for a little while longer, unless the used stuff comes from a trusted source. That's what I did and purchased a complet 5.5" Superlift system.

thats for the advice... what 4" lift do u advise me to get with shocks and everything.... for my 1994 ford explorer?

When lifting a TTB Explorer, going with the 4" is a tough call, because of the spring under the rear axle, most lift kits supply or require or for new springs (more arch), which adds to the cost (Trailmaster, Superlift, Skyjacker). A cheaper add a leaf may provide the required lift, but the ride will be harsh!

The 5.5 Superlift 4WD kit re-uses the stock rear springs, but places them over the rear axle. Infact, the 5.5" costs the same as the 4" (or less) due to this fact, so that was why I went with it over the 4" (and I have the factort HD leafs but still ride soft). And gives enough clearance for 33's. I dunno what Skyjacker does for lifts over 4".

Some >= 4" systems are complete, others have options that you order as extras to the "base kit", which usually includes dropped pivot and radius arm brackets, and front springs, and bolts. Rear springs, perches and shocks can be options. Also, any lift over 2.5" requires steering correction (dropped pitman arm), and 4" will also need longer brake lines. Replacing the worn out rubber bushings with polyurethane ones is worth it too. As well, you can get longer radius arms and better steering components as options, too.

Factor in $ for miscellaneous parts (bolts, etc.), installation and alignment (and the special cams).

For a 2wd onroad only? I'd think the a 5.5 to 6" system including shocks and rear spring perches, with the optional steering arm, brake lines, and bushings. Best lift to cost ratio, fits 33's. Superlift or Skyjacker.

Offroad, like pre-running? Try Fabtech's stuff.

ok i dont wanna go as hi as 5.5 cus i have a 2WD Xplorer... so there is really no reason to go that high... thats why i was looking at 4 or 3 inch kits.... do they make a 3 inch sus. lift kit for my xplorer? i would rather not go body lift because i could see the underside of the car since i am lifting 3 and gunna put 33's on it... or with the 3" body lift, does that show the underside of the car very much since u are only lifting the car not the chasi or anything else? will it be obvious is really the question...

thanks

Not sure you can fit 33x12.5's with a 3" lift without trimming. 33x9.5 or 10.5's may fit.

3" bodylift is also an option, a lower cost, but you may have to extend fuel, electrical and steering components, so installation can which can be as much of a headache as a suspension lift. This will not lift the chassis as much as a suspension lift, only a few inches from the extra tire height, the cab height, however, will be as high.

I'm not sure of all the 2wd options (sorry man I'm a 4WD type!), but I'm sure there are some, search the web for manufacturers.

thanks ur a big help

still looking for 3" or 4" suspension or body lift... complete set, new or used....

i have a 4 inch fabtech lift and am 2wd.. You can go to any fab shop and have your front beams bent for around 200 dollars to get a 4 inch lift out of the front and just put a new spring pack in the back to get the lift. I have a 3.5 inch lift spring pack in the back.
