I am getting ready to purchase a Xcal 3 for my 2002 Explorer 4.0 and was wondering how everyone likes theres? I would like a mileage, towing and performance tune. Will i see noticeable gains in these 3 areas with the Xcal 3? Should i make towing and performance tune on 93 octane and mileage 87? What would happen if i had 87 octane in gas tank and switched to 93 performance? Does everything come with the Xcal 3 that i need to tune my truck? Thanks

The X3 is only a unit which holds and transfers the tuning from the handheld to the vehicle. For tuning I recommend no less than 89 octane (especially if you are needing a towing tune). I generally write street tunes which combine the best of economy when cruising and performance when down on the throttle. Not sure who you are choosing for your tuning but I would question them directly for the answers you are looking for. Yes the Ex3 will come with the cables necessary to load the files onto your processor. As far as choosing the SCT hardware, it is an excellent choice.-j

What kind of prices are we looking at for one??? Also, i think i've read on here that it helps the tranny, with different shifting???

I do have full control over the trans (shift pressure, shift points, etc). Pricing is $389.00+shipping.-j

used about 200-250, make sure its unlocked, or it'll cost you another 150 to unlock it.

New they are around $350 or so, some places will include tunes, some won't.

I'd suggest you talk to James (jah81592) if you are interested, as he has some xcals used sometimes.

He did mine

I hear the mileage tunes dont really do much for mpg what other tunes could i get other than mileage, towing and performance? Also where is the computer boxcode number i need located?

yeah i'd like to see improvments in the miles per gallon area

Do you do tunes for the xcal2 as well
if so can I use them in the extreme tune program ?
(xtr format)
thanks

Yes,
I have tunes for the ExCal2 which can use the (.ll3 or .xtr format), I recommend .ll3 because you will have end user adjustments on the device.

The original Xcalibrator only could take the .xtr files.-j
