Xcalibrator 2 help!!!!!!!

Xcalibrator 2 on 2005 V6??

I have been out bama chips site, but did not see the product for other vehicles, but did not see a Xcalibrator 2 for 2005 4.0L explorer. Anyone with a 2005 x 4.0L using one of these flashers?

In the directions it tells you to remove the fuel pump and electric fan fuses before flashing....no problem locating the fuel pump fuse but what electric fan is it referring to? (since there is no electric radiator fan) We unhooked both the fuel pump and blower fuse and proceeded to use the XCalibrator...upon startup the truck runs for a few seconds then just dies!!!?!?!? please help

OK, don't get me wrong but the way I read your post is that you removed the fuel pump fuse and tried to start the truck....did you reinstall the fuse before attempting to start the truck? It won't run with no fuel pump, only for about a half second, then after that it won't even try to light off. I am guessing your supposed to remove the fuse as a safety feature so that it can't accidentally start while programming- but then it has to be reinstalled??? I don't know, just a thought.

jeez, i never looked at the dates when I replied. I had searched for something and stumbled across this thread. oh well

I ordered my ex2 from Bama, it took a few weeks to come in. I, at the time had no other performance upgrades on my 03' 4.0 Ex. And I felt somewhat of a difference. I mean accel seemed a bit more responsive, 40 - 70 mph seemed more but I couldn't tell if that was just me hoping my money did something, or if in fact the Ex2 was doing it's thing. Then as time has passed I have put on K&N cold air intake, ( felt that little boost ! nice!) and now have Gibson headers and cat back exhaust. ( Another nice boost!!) Talked to Doug about a program upgrade for all the mods, got it and Bang!! Another nice boost!!!. So, the moral to my story, I think you need to go through all the steps as if each thing feeds the next. By the way, you had to be there when I shocked an Acura TL. Made every penny sooooo worth it!

I found it's definitely better to do the other mods first and then use the tune to tie it all together.

It's all good dude, happens to everyone

I ordered an Xcal 2 used from eBay, and it's supposedly unlocked. Hopefully it wont give me any trouble. Maybe it doesnt matter whether its unlocked if I'm using custom tunes anyway... I couldn't resist getting it for $200. I can't wait to order some tunes from BAMA and fix my speedometer too.

One more thing I just thought of is this: Are all Xcals the same aside from whatever programs are already installed? I mistakenly bought this thing without first asking for a part number, and on SCT website they show two different models of the programmer. I don't know if it will work on my 98 explorer 4.0 sohc or not. It seems to me that it will at least be able to upload the new custom tune files that I buy from BAMA. ANy ideas guys? thanks

If it's not unlocked, you're SOL. Before it can be re-programmed, the other vehicle needed to be returned to stock. It's SCT's way of preventing people from sharing the flasher.

You should contact Doug and ask him. I am pretty sure that you will need to send it to him with your computer box code so that he can set it for your vehicle.

Good luck ....

I had to re-send it to him when I switched vehicles.

I hope it's unlocked, the seller swears that he unlocked it by restoring his original stock program to his vehicle. If not then hopefully doug or someone else will be able to fix it, maybe even sct themselves.

When it arrives I'll have more to talk about since I'll have a part number, but after looking on SCT homepage they only show two different models of the programmer, and it seems like the only difference is the preloaded software on them. What part # sct programmer is everyone here using?

When I got my Ex2 from Doug, He wanted all kinds of very specific information. They said it was to make sure that the program he put in was exactly right for my truck. So, I'm sure it all matters. $200.00 from ebay, I personally think that $349.00 directly from Bama already programmed and ready to go is a way better deal. ICU is probably not the place to be deal hunting and short cutting.

I bought it from eBay for $200 since I thought Bama had it listed for $399, and at the same time they are selling individual programs for only $50 each. In my mind it was $250 vs. $400 for the same thing. There is definitely more risk the way I'm doing it, but it'll either work or not work. I emailed Bama and they told me to contact them if for some reason the Xcal was not returned to stock.

Yeah, I understand the desire to save a few bucks, But when you get the xcal2 from Doug, you get three programs, not just one. I got a performance 87 octane, for fuel mileage during the long trips, 93 performance tune for blasting back and forth to work, hahaha!, and a 93 torque tune that , excuse the expression, holy smurf!!, has lots of pull out of the hole ! I guess it's supposed to be used for towing stuff, But my hitch will only ever hold my Pittsburg Steelers hitch cover. I'm sure there is probably nothing wrong with the excal2 you got from Ebay. Especially if you send it to Doug have him program it for you. Let me tell ya, I LOVE the programs he set up for my truck! Lots of power where I want it and still smooth shifts! I burned a 2003 Tahoe the other day, 93 torque setting, Very nice!

I have nothing but a K&N drop in air filter mod on my 05 X. How much performance boost will I get from the Xcal2..is it noticeable?

If you read my earlier post you would see. Not a whole lot of performance gain. Do the excal2 last. Trust me, Ditch the drop in filter for a K&N Cold air intake. BIG DIFFERENCE!!, Then get a 2 1/2 inch exhaust. I got a Gibson stainless steel because Gibson really is still a quiet exhaust. And Matching headers. Don't waste your time with a throttle body spacer, or any mass air flow resistors crap either. Then Email Bama with your axle code, tire size and all performance upgrades. Your X right now if it's a 4.0 is pumping out about 160 rwhp. After the mods and chip you'll end up around 200 rwhp. Now that is very noticable!!!! Cost? I found the the K&N for about $210.00, Gibson Chrome headers for $346.00, The cat back stainless steel exhaust for $329.00, and the Bama chip was $400.00. I did all the work myself, which was all easy, if you have a garage and tools. So total cost under $1,300.00. Not bad in my opinion. I am now looking for the next mod that will take it to the next level. I have a feeling though that from here on out it does get expensive because all the upgrades would be in the moter itself. I think they are developing a new set of cam shafts for it now. But the rear timing set on the 4.0 means you have just about pull the moter to get at. So, I think this will be as far as about go untill I decide if I want drop a ton of cash. ( I think I would probably get a v-8 first though.)
