Xcalibrator 2 help!!!!!!!

My only performance mod so far is the KKM intake. Would adding the headers and the catback make a significant sound difference? I like the truck to be somewhat quiet, especially at low speeds. Also, do you know if these mods will void my exteneded warranty?

The catback, in my opinion, is essential.

The headers are not worth it.

I agree with you 100% on the catback. re: headers, on the 5.0 application, it's apparent that Torque Monster Headers are a huge step up. I'm definitely doing them some day. On other applications, there doesn't seem to be a huge benefit.

What I understand is you have to revert back to original when you come in for sevice under warranty. That is one of the reasons why I only have a drop in air filter to date. I'm now weighing options to have a extended warranty or just mod the heck of Exp.

Rubbish. They can't void your warranty (by law) if you've got custom programming. The beauty of the flasher is that you can return to stock if needed, but how would the dealer know anyhow? Same holds true for air intake. A dealer cannot void your warranty if you have one on unless you truly didn't have it installed correctly and it trashed your ride because of it. Only the truly hopeless could do that. (and I'd be one to do that because I'm below average mechanic!)

The fellow asking has a V6, not a V8, hence my answer.

All I saw in his profile was '05 XLT'. Wasn't sure what he had. My comments were just directed an header installs in general on the Ex.

I just got an xcal 2 myself but from Henson performance and didn't notice much but again all I have is a custom CAI.

I find it difficult to beleive that with exhaust, intake, tune, your seeing 40hp gain DLIDDYFL. Also I think that the 160hp rating on 4.0's is flywheel, not rwhp or on any motor for that matter, at least specs coming from factory's. Aldive is seeing 200 something at the wheels with a lot of work done to his vehicle.

Al's got a SOHC engine. Is that what you have?

FWIW, I found the upgraded exhaust to provide me with a more noticeable performance gain than intake alone.

I have a OHV. Either or the guy is saying a 40hp gain from intake, exhaust, tune which isn't even close to realistic. Can you buy a muffler with the bolt up flange to match the cat that's already on the vehicle? I'm trying to save as much money as I can for an upcoming cross country move so I'd like to do the exhaust upgrade but can't spend the $300ish it would most likely cost to have a shop do the install. I'd like to just get a muffler I can bolt up to the cat then just put a tip right off the backside of the muffler to dump right there for now. I would concider taking the muffler off and just putting on a turn down tip but that would probably be obnoxiously loud on a 40+hr road trip. I wish I had the SOHC, if I hadn't been so hardup for a new vehicle I would have held out for another SOHC.

The 03' 4.0 V6 comes stock 200-210 hp at the crank. Figure about 20-30 % loss through the drive train. 150-160 rwhp. After that I can only direct you to Doug from Bama's Dyno runs. ( Theres a thread he has showing all the charts. They had a 98' 4.0L With intake, headers, 2 1/2 in cat back exhaust, and a excal2 flash he programmed pulling 197 rwhp and 212 ft torque. That 98' also had near or around 80,000 mi. on it if I remember correctly. Thay also did a dyno run on an 02' that had a 3 inch exhaust and a 70mm throttle body and found that it produced only 189 rwhp on it's best run. I think it was running a different chip in it also. Doug was surprised to see that and learned a nice lesson. As for the headers do they do anything, I put them on because if your going through the trouble to put on a cat back, helping to save the motor and flowing that air out better can't hurt can it? even if you only get 2 or 3 more hp, a few little things can add up. As for the sound, I went with Gibson. They are relatively quiet. When I drive normally I can barely tell they are even on the truck. But when I put my foot in it, they truck really grunts nicely! But not much more than if you put a cold air intake on it alone. As to all the warranty questions, intake, and exhaust do not void any warrantees, The flasher is a 5 minute back to stock flash, in to the dealer and when it come home, back to 93 performance flash.
