I want the brightest lighting possible for my 99 xlt sohc. I hear that would be a xenon bulb....sooo...to put a xenon bulb in my explorer do i really have to buy a HID conversion kit?? what does it consist of? bulbs and a balast?? If anyone out there has done this to their 99 or whatever...please let me know what youve purchased and what is involved. i've read posts...but its all after the fact. I'd want to Amazon it all and get it done in one day. Xenon bulb with partial blue tint gives the bright and further light i hear.

Anyones input realting to this "upgrade" would be appreciated!! Its winter and i drive a lot at night at highway speeds!! My factory halogens are too stressful on my eyes! (damn deer everywhere)

"Xenon" bulbs are often just halogen bulbs that have filters in them to make them look more white and often blue. They're not brighter. Don't believe the hype.

If you want bright halogens, go with premium bulbs from reputable sellers (Philips, GE, Sylvania etc).

If you want real upgrades to your lighting, go with a HID set up (ballasts and HID bulbs), but don't put them right into your lights as they create massive glare. Consider a projector retrofit and HID.

hidplanet.com is a great source for all things HID.

"Xenon" halogen bulbs are just a load of crap, thiers nothing xenon about them, except for the color they try to mimic...

Everything else celly said is right... I'm glad you've updated your lighting knowlege celly, now I don't have to post as much :D

in that case...i guess i'd go with what Sylvania or Phillips says is their brightest (Halogen) light?? I want to notice a difference...i want to see further. Think im going to skip the conversion and try to figure out which bulb is the "best" among halogens.
Thanks for the knowledge guys!! Have a good winter!

(and go Gamecocks)
