Hi Everyone! My wife and I ordered an xlt minus the leather package, we test drove ours tonight and the passenger seat is very low. Do any of you have the same concern? Is there a height adjustment, other than sitting on a pillow? My wife is quite concerned since she feels like a 10 yr old in the seat.

I have the electronic leather seats, so I'm not sure how yours will operate, but the seat height in mine is adjustable. On our previous cars the height on manual operated seats would be adjusted with a turn-style knob. If it's a HUGE concern, you might need to modify your order to include the powered seats?

Hello from West Des Moines! I'll assume you went to Dewey based on proximity?

You should be able to adjust the seat height, powered or not. I also have an XLT but with powered seats (202A) and after my first test drive, I raised the driver's seat a good inch. My 5'4" wife hasn't complained about passenger seat height and I haven't sat there yet. Assuming it's not in your garage yet, I'd check tomorrow after work but I find it incredibly hard to believe this would be a powered-only option.

We looked but we were too excited, and now she is complaining, I might have to wait another 3 months and order the leather package. We actually went through another dealer that my brother works for. How do you like it so far? You might get to test out the awd this week...

Is the passenger seats manual or automatic? I have to adjust the angle of the seat and the stiffness of the seat manually for the passenger side. The driver's side is fully auto.

It is manual.

Manual has no height adjustment.

Hi, IA. I am a 5'2" woman. When I did my first test drive, I felt like your wife did - a child sitting low in the seat! I have to admit, I was worried about seeing ok to drive.
However, I have to tell you that the power seat adjustment is amazing.
It adjusts all over the place, and I have it ALL the way up. I feel 10' tall! :D And can see everything. Still reach all the pedals and dash just fine too.

Is there any way you can get the power adjust seats?

The driver's side is power, but the passenger is manual. It is her vehicle but she is worried about not being able to see when she is riding and I am driving. I could order another one, but I do not want to wait 3-4 months... We are going into look again today to make sure it is not a deal breaker.

Ah, OK. Sorry, I misunderstood. Well, now you know she'll be fine if she decides to drive off with it! :D

how is the driver's power and the passenger's manual? I thought with power seats they are both power, however the passenger's lumbar adjustment is manual. If this is the case the height on the passenger's should be fully adjustable.

Lucille, I'm the opposite, I'm a 6'0 tall woman and sitting in the passenger seat, I feel like a kid, but the comfort is unbelievable. I have so much more room. I feel short in the driver's seat and can adjust both to fit my needs! LOVE MY EXP.. 1,000 miles today!!

Well we passed on this one and ordered an xlt with the comfort package. Now we will just wait again.

In the long run you'll be happier. Patience is definitely a virtue. If it makes you feel any better, I waited over 5 months from order to delivery (Stivers).

seat adjustment

Hi Seni
finally got my XLT and as a previous owner noted we test drove a fully loaded model and when we got our manual passenger XLT my 5'3" wife can barely see over the dashboard. Is there any fix for this? thanks

mpoggg,

I can definitely understand your concern but unfortunately without the 10-way power driver seat there is not a way to adjust the height of that seat. I apologize if you were not made aware of the difference between the XLT model seating and the Limited seating. Please PM if you have any further questions or concerns.

My car representative did not mention the power seat option for the passenger seat. It is pretty pitiful that I have to have a booster cushion in a $35 plus thousand dollar car to be able to see over the hood. How difficult would it be for the engineers to be able to design "raisers" that could be installed to raised the passenger seat to a acceptable height? I would be more than happy to pay the labor to have this issued corrected.

I'm sure the brochure and the Ford website list standard and optional features for all of the trim lines. I can't help but think that some simple research on your part would have been warranted. I don't spend $50 without knowing exactly what I am getting, much less $35k! Besides the seat, how has the car been treating you?

I did my research on the 2011 Ford Explorer, but as the only driver of the vehicle, no one mentioned anything about the passenger seat. I have owned two SUV with electric driver side seats and manual passenger seat and they all are at the same height. I also have 3 Explorers in my department that I drive. They all have electric driver side controls and manual passenger seat.....all with the seats at the same height. What a surprise when I finally set in the passenger side. Overall, I like the Explorer, but the passenger seat is still one of the issues that I am very disappointed with. The other is the sun visors. Ford needs to copy the twin sun visor design that Toyota created. This allows you to use one on the side window, if needed and another one for the windshield.
