I used my stock roof rack, and reinforced it by sandwiching it with two pieces of 3/16" flat stock (one on top of the 'wing', and one inside) [got pics around here somewhere]Originally posted by reichhartkg
I was thinking about taking a roofrack cross bar and cutting it so I just have the parts that attach to the track.
Next, get a piece of 1.5" angle iron and attach it to the sides so that the flat parts are in front and up.
Then, drill holes in the front and attach the lights to the front of the angle iron.
Last, get a standard flat4 trailer light hook-up and have the 3female/1male end zip-tied to the tracks. That will provide a quick-disconnect for 3 sets of lights and one ground.
Anyone done anything like this? Anyone willing to try? I want to do it but use my roof rack occasionally so I don't want to destroy my rack. So, this project is on hold until I get another crossbar (anyone have one they want to sell me?).
I also used two trailer harnesses- 2 wires per light. Takes all of five minutes to slide on and hook up.
