91 xlt 4 sale, NEW 96 XLT
I'll start first with a strange symptom that started off approx 30k miles ago, maybe its related to current situation, but probly not.

96 Explorer XLT 4 door V6 4 wheel drive. I don't know what tranny it is other then being an auto 5 speed (at least I count 4 shifts). Completely stock vehicle, 0 mods. Been taken well care of and driven easy (original owner was an older women before me). Always had stock sized wheels (about to be 265/70/16).

At around 2200 RPM I noticed a light vibration. I feel it in the floor board. It last from 2200 to approx 2500 PRM's. In or out of that RPM range its not noticable at all. Its very slight, and I don't think the average Joe would have even noticed it. Its RPM dependant and doesn't seem to be affected by vehicle speed so much. So, probly not tranny related, nor drive shafts, etc etc. More likely a torque converter, harmaonic balancer, or maybe even a tranny or engine mount? Any ideas? Anyone have this problem? Pretty much feel it right before an up-shift. Hasent gotten better or worse in over 30k miles. It didn't use to be there, this is why it bugs me.

Now, my current problem. Lazy shifting going from park to drive and reverse. It also is now slipping shifting from 2nd to 3rd sometimes. Its a lazy shift up (extended time between gears), or sometimes the RPM's rev up high before it finally shifts (slips). Being hard or easy on the gas doesn't seem to affect it (not load dependant). Its a random thing, but more so after driving for 15 min or so. So, after searching in here it seems a valve body might need rebuilding. Gaskets and a D o-ring? And a shift kit as well? Pardon my ignorance, I'm tired of reading lol.

So, any suggestions, comments? Anyone have specific part numbers or places to shop for these parts if indeed I do need them?

Thanks for any help, sorry if its been covered and or I asked noob questions. I did search, but man theres hours of reading to weed through to find my exact problem.

Hmmm... The vagueness of the symptomology suggests maybe low line pressure or EPC control pressures. The easiest way to "potentially" fix it is to flush the trans, drop the pan and do the Valve Body Rebuild shown in the stickies, AND replace the EPC and do the FORD mod at the same time.

Guaranteed to fix it? no. But you can do it for about $250 and it has an excellent chance of solving your problems. Flush it before you do the work and drive it a week to get anything in suspension either filtered out or stuck in the VB you are going to rebuild.
