I noticed some yellow drops in the snow last week after moving my 04 mounty (122K miles). I figured since it was -10 degrees in the mountains, that something leaked due to the extreme cold. Well it snowed again last night and it was only ~30, after I moved my car I noticed the yellow drops were coming right along my rear axle, maybe a little closer to the driver side.
Is there a heater core in the back? My haynes says there is. I don't have the third row heating/ac, only the second row console vents. I don't know what color the differential fluid is but I wouldn't expect it to be yellow. I just had front pinion seal replaced last month at dealer, unless they put new fluid in rear (which I doubt). If it wasn't so sloppy out I would get under the car and look.
