I'm going nuts with this one. I know of and have read all the threads on this issue with no luck. When this problem first started I had plenty of time, it's now taken me so long it's become very urgent for me because I work on base with the military but can no longer drive on base due to registration just expired because I can’t pass smog thanks to these codes. Smog test results are all perfect for emissions by the way - it fails the functional check (seeing the codes).
The truck runs fine, idles fine, no hesitation or misfiring. When I reset the codes it takes between 15 and 25 miles before they come back. First I tried sprays to isolate a leak - no luck. I read out all the sensors voltages and checked their operation as best I could. Have now gone as far as removing all the hoses and elbows and checking them individually with a vac pump. Took it to a shop for a $120 diagnostic check, they said they did a smoke check and found the intake manifold gasket to be leaking. They wanted $700 to replace!
So I brought it home and replaced it myself only to have the codes return 20 miles later. Assuming the problem has to be common to both banks I now checked the fuel pressure. With no filter installed I get about 32-34lbs at idle - my book says it should be between 30 and 65. I'd feel better if it were say 45 or 50 but since it barely makes it past 30 - does anyone think that may be the issue? It's too expensive a guess for me.
Any suggestions would be appreciated - if I can afford it I'll try it.
Thanks to you all.
Tom
