yet another tranny problem

ok so we put a new tranny in my ex...had it for 2 weeks...now it wont move...tranny fluid and all is pumping...it will move at 3000rpm but barely little and thats only in 1st and the driveshaft moves barely none...so is this tranny trashed like my old one?

New transmission (in a 91?)...rebuilt...or just a different one? Anyway, take a look at the fluid. Is it bright red and clean? Is it dark and smells burnt? Give us some more information and maybe we gan get a better idea for a diagnosis.

Sounds like not enough fluid? Not enough pressure maybe

it was another one not rebuilt nothing...but it did work! the tranny fluid was a lil burnt when we got it but after hooking it up we flushed it out and ran with new fluid then after a week it was a lil discolored but not black

A little burnt implies that something was slipping at some point (to me anyway). Have you tried all the gear positions (not just first)? I am assuming no reverse or anything.

I am betting that glacier will know a more definitive answer than I could ever give, but it sounds like its something fried in the forward clutches or band. That is a complete guess at this point. I was expecting to hear that the fluid was burnt badly.

it will move in all the gears...but barely if not at all...and its a lot of reving just to get it to move so it leeds me to think that its not totally Gone

Sounds like it pretty well just worn out. I am thinking its rebuild time, unfortunately.

i just realized something i never realized today...in the rear end of the tranny almost to where the drive shaft meets sitting on top of the tranny is what looks like a vaccum hose like its an air intake or something of that start...it doesnt stick straight up it actually comes out and then goes sidewas liek this

so my question is, would this cause it to not more? like is there supposed to be a hose hooked up to this or should there not be no air going in it, or what, i cant see anythign that should be hooked up to it

Thats the vent line. There should be a rubber hose on the metal part that sticks out ang goes up along the top of the trans toward the front.

I am going to assume that when the transmission was swapped out, they left the rest of it off or its laying up wehre you cannot see it. Either way, I don't see how that would cause the slipping.

there is a metal line that connects to a rubber hose but taht connects to another one of these, but that one is more to the right of the tranny then in the middle, and that one has an adjuster what looks like to me thanks for the info man!

Hmm...I am trying to get a pic in my head. I know the metal line goes forward then turns around...I am not sure where it goes from there (forgot). Remind me in the morning (PM) to go out back and look at the junk transmission I have sitting there. I am not sure if the line is still on it or not, but it can't hurt to look.

ur right BrianB, the metal line goes up, turns around and thats it. it doesnt do anything or connect to anything else and is just a breather line (as Brian stated)..
