Yokohama Geolander MT

Is the Yokahama Geolander MT tires any good.
I'm not conceerned with the mud caricaturistics but I am concerned with the dirt, gravel, sow and dry pavement caricaturistics. I'm looking at the 30X9.50X15.

Well - they are not on an Explorer, but I know a guy (I go offroading and fish / hunt with him) that has them on his '94 Toyota 4Runner. He seems to love them - they are not real noisy on the pavement, seem to hook up good in just about everything. The only stuff he has trouble in is loose sandy soil or deep snow - he has open diffs all around and I think his trouble is more closely related to that than his tires.

I think he bought his at Tires Plus - they had a real hard time doing his alignment and getting thr balance right, but I think that had to do with his wheels and 4Runner not the tires.

they are a good A/T...personally, i like BFG but the Yokos are good

We ran 31x10.50 Yoko Geolander MT's and before that we ran 30x9.50 Yoko Geolander MT's before this set of BFG AT (32x11.50). The Yoko's worked great in Dirt/Gravel roads.. Great in the rocks/moist dirt. They even worked pretty good in Sand.. I don't know about snow since it is almost 75 outside right now.. and it is January.. (this is normal weather in Southern Az).

The only complain we had about them is that we only got about 25k miles out of them.. We get close to 50k miles per year on the truck so a set of tires every 6 months wasn't going to work for us.. They are more expensive than the BFG AT tires were.. and the BFG tires are lasting us about 60k miles.

When the Yoko's are new they are smoother than you would expect. Once you wear them down (10k miles or so) then get rougher.. At about 20k you can "feel" the lugs on the tires hitting the ground when you drive slow.

If I had the money i would buy a set for use when off-roading and keep the BFG's for normal day to day use.

I could be wrong, but arent they directional? If they are then you wont be able to rotate them like normal. When you rotate them they wont change sides of your truck, just move front to back. That is unless you want to pay about $50 dollars everytime you rotate them and have them mounted and balanced.

No personal experience here, but of what various friends of mine told me, they do not hold up very long at all

my buddy had this on his bronco, he had 35's. It was great on the trail but sucked for daily driving, didn't last long.

Yes they are directional tires.. and most of the time tire places won't swap them front to back.. At least Discount doesn't anymore..

Here is what the 30x9.50-15 looks like on a stock first gen X.

I am working on getting a full set of 31x10.5on my X right now. I got three of them from a buddy and have ordered the fourth. I am running three of them now with a non-directional tire I bought for the spare. You can feel the lugs when going very slow, under 5 mph. They are not as loud as other MT I have used in the past. I also agree with this review http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/reviews/yoko_geos/ that they are very good on wet pavement. I can shake them loose though. I haven’t used them in mud or snow yet, but I will soon.
