2 things..

whats the biggest tire and wheel you can fit in the spare area under the rear of the first gen ex?...

also.. anyone that has installed anything up to the battery liek a switch or anything into the ex cab..where are the best holes in the firewall to feed a power wire through from the battery positive to the cab so i can make a switch in there for some aux fog lights?..preferibly on the drivers side..thanks a lot

i fit a 32x11.50 under mine... the problem is how far it starts to hang down. could get hung up on things. i never had any problems but it could happen.

I just installed some fog lights in mine two weeks ago: There should be an unused hole next to the throttle cable that has a blank square rubber plug, just slice a small hole in the rubbber plug and be careful not to get the wires wrapped around the throttle cable. The fun part is getting around the firewall insulation, mine started tearing a lot easier than I thought it would. Hope this helps!

I would spend more time worrying about how big a tire your truck will be riding on. You can always throw your spare on the roof and tie it down or in a roof basket or on a swing-away tire carrier. Many people do this. I welded and fabbed my roof basket and my rear bumper/tire carrier for under $100 all together.

I used the grommet that the hood release cable runs through to run the wires for my aux light switch. Just slid the wire through next to the cable.

Cant help you with the spare tire, I have a swing out one

As for wiring, just use any hole you can find, there are quite a few areas behind the petals. If you cant find one, drill one. just amke sure your hole has a grommet to prevent fires and such, and put in an inline fuse as well. Fires are largly a part of home grown wiring, but if you do it well you have nothing to worry about.

32" tire doesnt seem like a stretch. My stock tire is 29" tall, 1.5" around doesnt seem like a big clearance issue to me. Ill look underneath it tomorrow and see if i can do some guestimating.

yeah i fit a 32x11.50... in the spare tire location up under the truck. the tire was a tad on the short side as it was worn but it went under there without problems. never had it drag on anything while offroad. though i'm sure in the right situation u could get it to. maybe...

anything 31 inch and bigga forget about a spare. where you going to put it on your roof?????? or in the back???? neither makes any sense at all...Just suck it up like most people do! I have 33's and would I never need a spare..

No sense at all? Not having a spare makes NO sense at all. If all you do is in-town driving... you could maybe get by without. I've still had to use mine in town. A spare tire can be a lot less money in the long run than a few calls to the tow truck. As far as off roading goes... you've got to be kidding. You must have a spare. If your 20 miles from the nearest anything and you tear a sidewall... there is only one option... A SPARE. As far as putting a spare on the roof or on the back... well.. it's worked for me in both cases and for countless others on this board. Be smart: Keep your spare

In some states you can be fined for not having a spare. Some states will not let you pass inspection without one.
