Well, Z-5 didn't work for me at all. So I go and get some 3M Perfect it Swirl Mark Remover. I have 12 coats of Zaino on there and man is it durable. I am doing the Swirl Remover by hand, and it takes two applications just to get the Zaino off and start to remove the swirl marks. Well I have done half the hood and my arm is really tired. I have never used a buffer before but would like to to save my arm. I looked at the Meguiars tutorial but all I got from it was to use their buffer. I have heard of people leaving burn marks and stuff. So what's to using a buffer? Thanks for helping.

I have Meguiars orbital buffer. With an orbital buffer there is no way you can leave burn marks or swirl the paint. It doesnt spin, it mives in an orbital fashion that approximates the movement of your hand.

Very much worth it.

Please elaborate about the failure of Zaino product to "work" for you.

Thanks....

WHY?? If you must remove Zaino, a few washes in Dawn dish detergent will work. Has to be Dawn though.

Dawn won't do it. It's tough on the polish, but it won't remove it. I talked to Sal. Well, I guess I just have really deep swirls, although they really don't look that way. I used to use Meguiars Gold Class and didn't know I had any Swirl Marks due to my white paint. I used Z-2 the first time and man I had so many I couldn't believe it. I used Z-5 and it eliminated some but not many. After 7 coats I can't see them just looking at my car, but they are still there at a certain angle. I put 7 coats of Z-5 on there and I can still see them. After 4 coats of Z-5 the 5th-7th coat didn't do anything. So Sal told me to use the 3M stuff as a last resort. Hope that explains the failure to work.

when we took my moms car to get painted...

they told us that using dish soap can like lessen the life of a cars pant.

so we just use that blue coral wash/wax in one stuff

then i will use some color restorer on mine sometimes.

Use some isopropyl rubbing alcohol to remove the Zaino.
I had to paint a section & Sal said this would work and it did.
Hope this helps...

Wow, Thanks Bill! It comes up pretty easy.

Can't you just clay the truck to remove Zaino?

Yup, isopropyl alcohol works great. Afterwards, wash with dawn and clay the $*&% out of it. That'll remove all your Zaino. Now you have a clean slate to work with.

A buffer is a very essential tool in order to properly remove swirl marks. Many of 3M's best products are designed specifically for machine use. Stephen's right, with an orbital, it's basically impossible to burn any of the paint. The best orbital out there is the Porter Cable PC 7424. Meguiars sells one that is exactly the same, just with their name on it.

The 3M Swirl Mark Remover that you have may not do the trick. Many at the Autopia forums have had less than desireable results with it. I would suggest 3M's new Perfect-It III machine glaze. I used it with a buffer and got all of the swirl marks out of my car, and mine is dark red and shows everything. This stuff is awesome. Better than the Foam Pad Polish I was using. But since you already have the SMR, give it a shot and see if you're happy with the results. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up on it before you spent all that time polishing it (I remember well what a b**** it was to hand-polish the whole car).

Good luck!

peace

Mike

Hey thanks a lot Mike. Yes, I will be getting the PC buffer. And well, the swirl mark remover is working great so far, but I might try what you suggested. Thanks again.
