My wife had her keys fall out of her jack pocket and under the front passenger seat while she was driving. After she shut it off she got a message about no key being detected and then the alarm went off. She called me thinking she had left the key at home but found it when she looked a second time. Clearly they don't have much range, especially if there is something blocking the signal path.
