Ok the cats out the bag!!im going supercharged .its a 3800 gm m90.i need lots of help as im a nos guy.for starters my list of mods is in my signature.the guy im buying it from ran it on a stock tuned motor at 3psi.first question is what is the "safe" limit to run boost at?i know it is not ideal but i have a wide band O2 and will be doing tuning very soon.i also will be trying to have my company make a new lower intake mounting bracket on the cnc machine and have it taped for nos/water meth injectors/spray bars.i will also be getting a p+p unit from 3800 performance and stepping down on the pulley to try and run 8-10psi.what size injectors should i run for that?which fuel pump should i run?any suggestions on tuning?i was going to go...
I just read a thread about stroking a 5.0L to the 347. I see american muscle has the 347 kit ( http://www.americanmuscle.com/scatstroker-347-forged-7995.html ) Pretty much the thread i read it needs to have a harmonic balancer and matching flywheel. So I'm a total newbie but i love learning i don't know much about motors and trannies i can do your basic work; brakes, rotors, shocks etc. Does anybody have a realistic price range for what it would cost? I know obviously i need to buy the kit. I would assume being a stroker kit i'll have to get some machine work done. I don't know the standard specs and when i try and find it all that comes up is the motor specs like hp and gas mileage 0-60 times. Sorry if there a specific thread that...
Obviously this is not an Explorer, but it sure is "Need For Speed". This is one of the projects I have been busy with lately. Here are the specs on the mods: Custom Garrett T04E 60 Trim Turbo, FMIC, Tial 38mm WG, SCT Xcal2, Ford GT fuel pump, Cobra 39lb Injectors I plan to boost it to 4 psi on the street and likely 6-7 for track days. It should make enough power to go 12's. I finally got it out of the garage and started it today. You cannot hear the turbo much because its just idling but the exhaust note itself does sound pretty good. I just started tuning it so there are no power results yet. Those will come soon. Here is a quick video of the build. Turbo LS Build Video
I'm trying to find out the max acceptable heat/temp I can expose pushrods and/or rockers to, without damaging them. It is known that the 4.0L-OHV has poor top end / valve train oiling; often leading to premature wear of pushrod ends and pushrod cups in the rockers. So, I thought I would try using a dry-film lubricant engine coating. http://www.techlinecoatings.com/hi-performance/bs-internal-engine-coatings.html I'm looking at the DFL-1 PowerKote: My concern is the 300deg, for 1 hour. Does anybody see any problems with this; such as loss of "temper", unintended hardening/embrittlement, and/or warpage of the parts? As I said, I intend to use it on the pushrods, the inside "bore" and both the pushrod cup as well as the valve end tip...
This thread will document the installation of R P Caster's intercooled Banshee supercharger kit and an Eaton M90 supercharger from a Thunderbird supercoupe into my 2000 Explorer Sport with SOHC V6. Following the installation I will be generating a custom tune using SCT's Advantage III Pro Racer Package. Hopefully, this thread will assist others in performing a similar installation. The components incorporated will be listed here and updated as required. A "Lessons Learned" section will also be posted here when the project is completed. To reduce the length of this thread (to assist those duplicating the installation) this thread was closed until the basic installation was completed. The rationale for the selection of various components...
Finally took the LS to the track today when it was fairly cold out. I got alot better times than I did last time I went out to test my car with nitrous. Here is how my timeslip looked: R/T... .748 60'... 2.205 330... 5.797 1/8... 8.751 MPH... 84.75 1000... 11.263 1/4... 13.382 MPH.. 106.59 I am still spinning off the line. I figure that once I get traction (LSD & DR's) along with curing my tranny hesitation problem I will be easily able to dip into the 12's. I figure with all of that cured I should have no problem scooting through 12.9's and moving right onto 12.8's with ideal conditions. I am still pretty confident that I own the fastest stock engine Lincoln LS in the country. ;) I also got a...
With my swap, I have decided to run ceramic coated shorty headers. The question is which ones? JBA Headers * or * BBK Headers Both are smog legal, both appear to be of similar construction. The JBAs are more expensive. I have a set of JBAs on my '06 SOHC, and they are a quality product. I have no personal experience with the BBKs. Thoughts and suggestions?
Have a Paxton SN-93 based centrifugal supercharger kit, going on my 94 Explorer. Current plan is to use a FMU that I have and save tuning for later, since there are no OBD-I tuners near where I live. Motor is all stock, auto trans so it won't likely be seeing over 4000 RPM. Number one priority is reliability. Number two is light weight and ease of maintenance/minimal added parts. Number three is power. This will be a low boost setup, seldom reaching 6psi. If I can run regular octane that would be even better. The Explorer will be operated in a hot climate where it may see 110 degrees ambient temp during the summer. Since I am not doing tuning, and running the stock PCM with a FMU, I'd like to reduce the chance of ping/detonation and...
So just wanted to see what everyone thinks or feels about larger valves. Numbers are just a reference, I have a spare head and will be chopping it up soon to get exact numbers.. So this is more towards the ohv and being FI.keep in mind the ohv has very small valves and I will be stroking it and running 4" pistons.now lets say you have .200 of clearance for the valves to go larger.what would be best for FI and the fack my motor will be larger and stock is super small. So would you A-increase the intake valve .200 and leave the exhaust the same? B-increase the exhaust .200 leaving the intake the same? C-increase both .100? D-increase the intake larger say .150 and smaller exhaust increase .050(or any other equal number)...
I have been talking to explorer express and seeing what it would take for them to make a super charger kit for the 5.0 explorers again. This kit would have a 4th gen blower on it. So it would be a little different then the original kit but not much. So anyways they have given me a number of kits that would have to be sold for them to even make them. So I guess I am here to gauge interest. So who all is interested? I will talk to them about the price and how many units need to be sold for them to do this and then let every one know.
Ok so I ave an extra 94 explorer sitting around. I converted it to RHD for mail Delivery and my ex wife no longer needs it for that so I got it back :D . I love Drag Racing and typically more of a muscle car guy. (Just Sold My Drag Bike last year) So am thinking of doing something a bit different. A Pro Street Explorer. (low, fat tire, back-halved, etc)I am going to do 4WD to 2WD conversion to start. Yank the engine trans and what not to convert to a carbureted V8. Yes there is easier things to do, but I do not need it and figured it would be a fun project and a little different. I have however searched for a Pro Street Explorer on the net to see how it would look but have not found any yet. So if any of you know where some pics are...
Anyone have any experience on supercharging the 5.0L? After all the intake and exhaust work I have done and and tuned by Henson Performance (Thanks James) my little motor still strains to push 2 plus tons down the road. I guess I should clarify that once I'm up to speed it perfoms great. The engine is strong and the truck will go faster then I care to(again thanks to James at Henson Performance for removing the speed limiter). I'm just looking for more power off the line(Damn Civics) and supercharging seems to me to be the best option. I don't want to tear into the engine (thats for another day). So I thought I would ask you all about doing this. I have been researching and can pick up an Eaton M90(rebuilt) for a decent price but the...
I want to rebuild my 5.0 Eddie Bauer into a daily driver/street rod. My main goal is make this as fast as I can from 0-60, but can be driven on the highway without the engine running at 3,000 RPM at 70MPH. So I am looking for people who have experience in changing out the gears in the differentials. As you may know this Explorer already has 3.73 but I am looking to get some real torque from this truck. I don't really believe going as high as 4.88 or 5.14 would be reasonable because this will still be a daily driver for fall and winter. I will not be taking this vehicle offroading, but like I said I am looking for very good torque with reasonable RPM range on the highway. I am looking at a 347 or 363 reverse dome crate motor...
i just finished putting on a 75mm BBK throttle body (that i bought used), and have had some problems. first, the truck is a 98 sport with a 5L, and a m90 supercharger on it. when i did the throttle body, i also make a bigger throttle body elbow as well (3 1/2 inch), and modded the shaft for the butterfly by cutting the part of the shaft that faces you when its closed. now that is on, here are the problems. this thing whistles and hums like mad. its already driving me nuts, and its only been a day, i am having some idle issues with it, and now have a P1506 code (Idle Air Control Over Speed Error), at first i thought it was the IAC, and lucky for me, i had a bran new one kicking around. tried it, no luck. took the elbow off thinking...
