Transfer case questions

Ok I looked through 15 pages in this section could not find anywhere that had any info, but would a transfer case from a 2001 ranger work on a 1996 Explorer? I never really looked but I'm sure both the 5r44E/5r55E is just about the same as the 4r44e/4r55e. Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

Yes it will work. The explorer and ranger both use a BW1354.

Oh, I was going to reply before leaving work (don't have the net at home) my parts department finally got back to me and said explorers use the BW4405??? So is the one they told me about the auto 4x4 4high 4low? And the BW1354 a 2wd 4high 4low? I'll have to research this, not saying your wrong. Just want to learn more about 4x4 drivetrain.
