2004 Ford Explorer XLT
Its been 2 years now sense I sold m ex, I've been looking to get another one found a 2004 XLT Fully loaded with 137k on it, its very clean the guys asking $2100. Owner States The tranny is slipping in 3rd gear but also states he just replaced the tranny cooler, I know theres no dipstick to check the fluid and the tranny fluid goes in from underneath. Is it likely its just low on fluid and was never topped off? I'm not familiar with the problems on these mine only had 82k on it when i sold it.

I'd stay away. That's the mileage where you're going to see all of the big problems arise. It's just the nature of these beasts.

For the sake of protecting yourself from insinuations that you caused damage by checking by yourself, take it to a tranny shop to see what's in the pan. Guaranteed it won't be good.

If it's 4x4 I'd give him $1,100 tops. Probably gonna need a transmission at the least.
