2012 Explorer
Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance if this is already posted somewhere but I haven't been able to find anything for the 2011-2013 explorers. I'm looking to remove the radio to plug a harness I bought into the back of it.

I'm not doing any custom wiring, it's all plug and play, my concern is simply not knowing how to get the radio out without breaking anything. I'm an experienced stereo installer but have never taken this truck apart - and I've learned the hard way to not just start pulling at things.

Is there anywhere someone could point me that shows instructions for the newer explorers with the mytouch system and the Sony head unit?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum cmadparty.:wavey:
Unfortunately I don't have the answer. I would, however, suggest that you show which model Explorer you have in the left margin profile. Some answers are 'model specific'. Not all models of the Explorer have the same radio.
Good luck.

I thought I read somewhere where you have to carefully pull the silver side trim forward and off, then pull the center console forward and buff as well. I think the silver trim pieces might cover a few screws.

Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance if this is already posted somewhere but I haven't been able to find anything for the 2011-2013 explorers. I'm looking to remove the radio to plug a harness I bought into the back of it.

Is there anywhere someone could point me that shows instructions for the newer explorers with the mytouch system and the Sony head unit?

Thanks.

Just an idea that might help you.

On the Ford Fleet website there is a section in the Police vehicles section called the Modifiers/Upfitters Guide.

This document deals with adding aftermarket equipment to the Police Utility which is an Explorer.
