Sync 2 MFT APIM Replacement / Repair

So my MFT is out. Once every month or so it will start working again for a week or so then die again.

I really dont want to pay a ton of money to a dealership to replace it. The car has 200k miles on it.

What are my options? I've found some people selling replacement units on Ebay but you have to get them programmed. Out of curiosity I called a local dealership and they flatly refused to reprogram a new one unless I bought it from them. Its really frustrating that you cant reprogram it outside of a dealership. Seems like a really shady way to force you to use them to fix stuff.

Unfortunately I also fall outside the lawsuit since I bought my car from CarMax and not direct from Ford.

It does not have to be a dealer only fix. If you use the 'Search' feature you will see that there are a few threads on this. 2011 Explorer APIM Question and APIM replacement... location, part No, how to?
