ok so i just finished putting on my brush guard and cleaning up the inside of the truck. Its time for an intake upgrade!! ive heard of K&N and MAc and others but which is the best deal. dose 1 give more hp and give better gas milege than the other? What are the costs? if you have pics of your intake in an 2gen please post them.

thanks

As far as mileage and hp differences, I doubt one is better than the other. I would go with the MAC since its considerably less $$$ and looks pretty too.

This is the k&n kit I bought a year and a half ago. very pricey, I paid like $200.00 for it. There was a difference in performance. No hp gain but throttle response got much better. I wouldn't put this kit or any similar kit on if you go thru deep water. It's wide open.

you cant post an image off your hd unless you are elite.... if you ar elite, then you can attach the image to the thread....

I love my new K&N, got it for 200 off ebay. Sounds great, boosted MPG, and improved throttle response. Probably added horses too (K&N says it adds 5.86HP) but I myself have no data to back this up. For pictures go to page 2 on my cardomain link in my signature below.

thanks guys for the respones. Explorer96xlt you cant post pics until you become an elite explorer!!!! read da rules lol

those MACs are so pretty....im pissed that they arent available for mine 95's are the forgotten year lol

no kidding, I would have bought a MAC if they made one for us 95ers, but they don't so I had to bite the bullet and go with the k&n

you coulda bought a KKM, thats what ill probly do

I just figured if I was going to do anything with the intake, I might as well go all the way. I knew if I got the kkm, I'd regret it later and end up replacing the whole intake, costing me even more. So I guess my perfectionist nature drove me into coughing up the big bucks on a high-end system.

there is nothing wrong with the KKM, there was a thread about someone doing a dyno test with both with nothing but miniscule variance between the two....K&N is the name..thats it pretty much.

haha really?
Dang I wish I could have seen that thread about a month earlier...

I went with the K&N and love it. One thing I would add is that if you have a crankcase breather tube that supposed to go into the intake, consider going instead with a crankcase filter instead of cutting a hole in the intake tube. The kit comes with a rubber grommet to fit in a 5/8" hole that you drill to insert the breather tube into but to get the breather tube to stay put it has to protrude into the intake tube and I would think it has to cause some airflow disturbance which is what the whole intake idea is supposed to get rid of. Just food for thought.
