A couple easy ways to tell:
1) Pop you hood or look through the driver's wheel well and see if the hard brake line on the coil tower goes directly to the master cyclinder or ABS hydraulic control unit in back of the radiator... Obvioulsy if it goes to the MC you don't have front ABS...

2) Inspect the steering knucles for the ABS wheel sensors... As seen in the pics below the electrical wire is for the ABS sensor. It will be the only electrical wire going to the steering knuckle.

The HCU (hydraulic control unit) in your 2nd pic only has a single line in/out and I would expect it to have 2 lines in (front/rear) and 3 lines out (LFront,Rfront,Rear). I cannot see any wires going to the knuckles, but as Drew mentioned maybe the sensors are diff on Rangers  Anyway tracing the brake hardline from the MC will tell you with out a doubt what kind of ABS you have. Where does the output line go from the HCU? Where does the line go from the other MC output line?

What warning light is in the dash? "ABS" or "Rear Antilock"? :D

is there a way to look it up via the vin #?

Um. . . 1 in, 1 out HCU and no ABS sensors on the front knuckles. . .seems pretty obvious to me. . .

the line that comes out of the hcu is connected via a Y at the front wheel, that then goes to the caliper hardline.......

on the left front wheel.....

Isn't that the brake line coming directly from the master cylinder?

one comes from the master the other comes from the thing on the fender

I'd disconnect it, and learn to brake handle the truck. Nothing so sensitive and short lived as ABS, and not too many brake shops know how to fix 'em.

The connectors are situated next to the wheel w/road grime and salt, and in a short time the first trouble light you will experience will be ABS.

This technology needs a lot of improvement in robustness before it gets a recommendation from me. When mine goes on my 2006, it's getting disconnected.

my abs isnt broken, and there is no light on, however its time for me to replace the rotors and pads, and i dont know what to order, if i have rear antilock or 4 wheel abs

Houston we have a problem.....

The pics and your description don't add up  ... The master cylinder will have 2 outputs (1 for the front brakes and 1 for the rear).... I think you may have miss identified the line coming from the HCU into the manifold bolt in your driver's side pic. Typically this manifold bolt would get 1 input from the MC and 2 outputs (front left caliper , front right caliper).

Assuming everything is stock, there's a MUCH simpler way than trying to identify specific components under the hood or on the chassis.

Open the door and look at the sticker. Under the second heading on the bottom left labeled "BRK" will be a character. I can't seem to find the code definitions in the service manual at this particular moment, but the dealership should be able to tell you in short order.

Also, from the pics that Jimbo posted, it's rear wheel ABS. The front line off the master cylinder runs down to the T fitting on the driver's side frame rail, then across to the other side, and the rear line goes into the RABS valve, then down to the rear axle.

It's RABS.

what are the breakdowns for the brake codes on the door?

I have yet to find the info.... wasn't 4wheel ABS standard on all the 2nd gens? That could be why.... my manuals only go back to 98....
